Custom tool we cut from stainless to remove a nut on the crankshaft...didn't care for the spanner wrenches out there and didn;t want to stress the crank or bearings by pounding on it or heating it so we cut this little thing and it worked just right; nice and easy.

Bullhead moto I have been following your sno-scoot project and think that it is awesome. I would really like to end up doing this to mine, are you going to be selling parts/kits to do this to a scoot?, also i was wonding if you know of any sites where you can get a used honda gy6 to rebuild and if there are any differences to the gy6 motor or if they are all the same ive been looking all over the internet but can only find new ones.Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! keep up the good work

Sorry for no updates for the last few days...we moved last weekend and it was pretty busy. Will post more photos this weekend.

Burlfullthrottle, thanks, and i have to say, that I have been very pleasantly surprised by the number of serious inquiries into more of these builds. I get emails and PM's daily and it's pretty cool how many different ways these will be used and enjoyed. Yes, we are looking at selling kits hopefully by Fall, but right now we are doing all custom, built-to-order, in house.

There are huge differences in the GY6 motors out there. First of all, there are two basic versions: long case and short case. Long case is typically used on Scooters, while the short case is typically used on the performance go-karts. We use the short case (designation simply refers to the length of the CVT housing portion of the engine, or the distance from the crank to the final drive shaft); the long case is way too big to fit in a Scoot (we tried).

Most are chinese and the quality can be good, but you need to get lucky. Taiwan engines are a different story. The Taiwan engines and components are top notch and are easily as good if not better than the Japanese originals. The bearings, internal gears, machining, shafts/splining, casting details, etc are all much better; it's visibly obvious just looking at them (compared to chinese engines).

I am now a dealer for these engines and all performance and racing parts and kits and can get you set up to any level you want when you are ready. And you can grow the performance over time and not do it all at once like we are on this one. The base GY6's are so reasonable that buying used isn't really worth the potential trouble or hassle.

Feel free to PM or email for more info at anytime. bullheadmoto@yahoo.com

Since this thread seems to have turned into the SnoScoot enthusiasts thread of choice on SnoWest, I thought that I'd post up a few pictures of a SnoScoot that I'm currently working on.

I wanted to build one that has a more current look, but still had a retro Yamaha look. I decided to go with something based off the 50th Anniversary R-1 bike that used the old school Yamaha yellow colors that were used back in the 70-80's.

The frame and suspension have been completely stripped and powdercoated. It's got a custom Fox shock installed in the rear suspension, along with a remote reservior that has a compression adjustable clicker. The seat has a new cover, C&A mini skis, and a new track installed.
