Island Park Snow Conditions

We're heading down to island park on friday for, what looks to be a hell of a good time. Our group is short a beacon, however. Is there any places down there that will rent beacons? or anyone else in the area that has an extra one? Thanks

It appears that I.P is on pace for a near record snowfall. From what I recollect from 15 years of riding just in Island Park, this is the most snow for this early in the season that I can remember.

Be careful folks, this much snow, this fast, is never a good thing.

ill be out to island park feb16-21 of feb, hope to here that the snow is still amazing.

From Dec 24 to Dec 29, the equivalent of 3" of water was added to the snowpack. (Snotel info taken at Henrys Lake at 6290 feet, it is even more up higher)

That equals a very unstable snowpack........

STAY OFF THE HILLS until this snowpack stabilizes, if it ever does........

Be very careful!!!!

Here is a great link to see new snowfall. It gives temp, snow, snow/water every hour

There is a group of 5 of us coming down on Saturday for the week. I'm aittle concerned with all of the avy danger. Is their anybody going in to jefferson? Has the sun even shined in the past two weeks? Does anyone have any recent pictures of the snow? I just can't imagine all the powder on the hills.

We have had rain and major wind with temps around 40 in the valleys the last 2 days, was in the big holes today and felt a whole hill side shift while I was standing on it. I wouldnt recomend the jefferson area personaly with all the wind we have had. Its going to be wind loaded to the max right now.

Thurs. Morning. Its snowin with reports of 6-8 inches. The roads are great until you hit Osborne bridge then its a little icy. Looking out the window now visabilty is down to about 1/2 a mile.

The roads are not going to be good. I was planning a trip over to IP from Jackson on friday but they are calling for high winds and more snow to come on friday. Sat and Sun are looking to be nice. 6:00 Pm in Jackson the wind is blowing around 15 gusts to 35. Like some of the posts said pay attention to your area. Jefferson and reas are going to turn loose at some point I just hope no one is around when it does. Be careful.:)

Hey was up there over christmas and got about 3 feet in 48 hours I'd say. then the 26th it rained and put about a 1/4 in of ice on top. Still super soft underneath. I couldn't ride cuz I hurt my back the 23rd but it dumped up there. haven't been riding this year yet since I was going to be riding a ton over christmas but that didn't happen.

Four of us rode yesterday in IP. We rode up fish creek and played the whole way to Baker Draw. Visiblity was about 15 ft at times and it snowed hard. Snow has a crust but once you break through you will be trenching. Had planty of stucks but had fun. Dropped down Baker and it was still snowing. Got down on the lower side and the snow had about an inch of ice on top. The sound of breaking through when carving was crazy. We took eccles into last chance and ate lunch. Then rode out on the mesa falls trail playing all over. The snow conditions changed from ice covered to grainy powder a few miles down and we were able to find a ton of untouched snow. Total for the day was 84 miles. Lots of playing!!!

If the storm that is supposed to hit this weekend is cold enough to snow conditions will be perfect. Too bad its already 38 degrees down here in the valley so it will be really wet snow if not rain....

Man what a few days will do to the snow. We rode part of black caynon loop today and you can pretty much go anywhere. In the trees theres even alot of base. What a excellent day!! Tobad were going home tomorrow. Its 9:40pm and its -17 out side.

what kind of depth is on top of this new base?

Rode yesterday on the east side. Snow conditions changed about 12 times along the ride. In the trees we were in two feet of powder. The flats in some areas were windblown with about 8-10 inches of grainy powder over a rock hard base. Other spots had the ice layer that was about an inch thick that made for some crazy riding. Overall the base is set and now we just need another two feet of fluff on top and it will be golden!

Its cold this morning (-7 in the valley) so make sure to run your scratchers! The trail was harder than the back of your head yesterday so i can only imagine how hard it is this morning.

just got home from 5 days of riding, snow was insane down low. The hard layer of ice was tricky to ride in in spots. Two tops was good but tracked down yesterday. after some new snow it should be great
