Island Park Snow Conditions

Took a lap today down the Tetons, around the Caldera and over the Big Holes. Not much anywhere and the south facing rocks were melted bare in the Jefferson area. It was 30 degrees @ 10'000 ft today 3ish so we're losing snow right now. Big holes had a little but relay ridge was bare. Outlaw took some pictures that he'll probably post, I was busy trying not to rhime the plane in the crappy weather.

ahh, well this much anticipated storm seems to get a day away and a day away. however, it looks like it might finally show up. We finally have a winter storm warning for tomorrow night all through saturday, and weather reports show snow through most of next week.

everyone dance!

If snotel is right they got between 10-14 in. depending on the spot, the webcams don't look like it, but I guess the sagebrush is a few feet tall. I'm guessing it's going to be pretty decent from here on out.

I rode up Fish Creek today. Unloaded in about 6 inches and rode up the rode for awhile and got into about 2-3 feet. The trail was in good condition, but everything is marked up on and off the trail now...:D

We rode Jefferson on saturday. There was about 8-10" of new stuff down low and up high we ran into about 20" of fresh snow. I would say about 4' total. It was a blast. I'd say the time has about come. Still gotta watch out for stumps and rocks but we were able to get off the trail and play quite a bit.

A buddy and I rode parked at Ponds, rode up Chick Creek and broke trail all the way to Fish Creek and on up to and through the Black Canyon Loop. We saw about two other groups once we ruined the trail but on the way down we did some off trail work and had a ball. Not a bad first ride. As far as snow goes, I'd guess there was 4 - 5' up high, about 2 feet midway, but the weed aren't covered in the parking area just south of Ponds. Great light powder all day.

We took a nice first ride into Reynolds Creek today. It was cold, -5 starting out and about 5 degrees at 4pm. We unloaded at the pull out on the Montana/Idaho border then we East to Taylor Creek and then up the mountain that is directly north of Henry's lake. You could see the whole lake and valley from the top. Snow started to get good at 8500 feet and it was really good at 9500 feet (based on altimeter on a Cat, I'm questioning the acuracy). We spend the afternoon pounding the open areas up high and had fresh powder all day. 8 riders and nobody hit anything. There was a good 3 feet of powder and about 10 inches of crust on the bottom.

One of the guys we rode with said he tried to get over Satelle on Sunday but couldn't b/c the snow was too deep and bottomless.

Keep snowing :)

I have been a snowmobiler and owned a cabin in IP my whole life and have never been into Jefferson.
I am spending 12/25 thru 1/1 at the cabin and would like to keep trying. I have come in from Shotgun and made it to Reese Peak but only on very cloudy days (could'nt see).
We head out from Macks Inn area. Would anyone share their easiest route in? I have a GPS. Some good coordinates would be awesome, or a route or map.

Thanks in advance

Any update from my last post on here? Its the 20th now and we have been getting snow all last night here in ND. Anything new out there in Island Park?

A group of us rode up to two top yesterday, there was around 3.5 to 4 feet of fresh powder!! It was an awsome ride we all had a ton of fun, even though the guys on the little sleds had to work real hard!!
I have pics but it is not letting me load them, I will try again later.

PLEASE post pics! I can't friggen wait to get out there! 43 days!

Scubasteve, if you can make it to Reas Peak, you're almost there. You head down the east side of Reas and work your way down to Red Rock Creek. If you're interested in exploring down there, we'll be out the first week of Feb and would love to ride with ya.
