How many have lost "skirts"

-It is an overall package. RKT drop-in kit heads allow for 91 ethanol fuel while
using the non-ethanol plug and gives more power.

--OEM head apparently a poor design as are other things with this engine. However, the poorly designed and/or adjusted
components can be easily replaced and/or adjusted.

I am a Doo guy but ride with a fair few Poo guys so don't flame me but here is what I am seeing. The Pro chassis is running super hot coolant temps on the trail in. The older RMK in our group has lots of cooling due to big heat exchanger. I wonder if most of the failures are on the Pro and not the basic RMK because I am told the basic has an extra exchanger? Secondly how many guys actually keep a close eye on the temperature and use scratchers?

No flame. If I don't run scratchers down on the way in, it will get hot. I watch mine closely, many others do, and the overheat can be avoided with some common sense. I have 1.5k now on a stock 11, oiler turned up to ~40:1. Hammering before reaching operating temp, especially after a cooldown, is not a good idea, either. All can be managed by the operator. With that said, some very smart operators are still losing their skirts.

lost a mag side CYL skirt at 1700 mi. 2011 pro. Shortblock ordered. FYI, always keep warranty on a polaris eng.

Mine was a standard RMK and was in very deep dry powder....didn't look at my temps but they were 120 all day long. No trails, just powder.

--Why bother with a warranty, just fix it out of the box, have a great running sled, and don't worry about it.

-- I understand where your coming from though.

And if it still happens, then your out as much as 4000 for a new drop in. Most of these fix kits dont have huge miles on them yet so we really dont know if they fix anything.

a friend of mine put "THE FIX" in his turbo dragon. the piston ring pin came out and the ring went around snagged a port and screwed up a cylinder. so these kits are not fool proof.

Thats just bad luck. As long as the fix kits aren't losing skirts I'd be less concerned. The repair almost doubles in price once something goes through the case.

So let me get this straight, you people are saying I should void my 4 year warranty on my 2012 to put in a "fix kit" which will last maybe 2 years, so that i can buy a new motor for 4000 when the "fix kit" goes down? :face-icon-small-dis IMO anyone who DIDNT get extended warranty on their polaris should look themselves in the mirror and say I am an idiot. The down time and loss of riding time waiting for warranty parts really sucks though and I feel bad for my fellow sledheads going through that.

Here is the real fix kit:

Dear Polaris,
Suzuki no longer has a contract with Arctic Cat. Please call them up, and purchase many Suzuki 800 motors and put them in your sweet Pro Chassis.
Better motor, more HP, best chassis. Everyone's a winner! Happy(groomed) trails and Deep powder to all...
Thank you,
Phatty

x2 thats what i have been trying to say in another 800 reliability post pro A+ sled but the motor reliability C- our 2009 hcr 2800+ miles no issues

This is the best sentence I have ever read on Snowest ^^^ I'm getting a chub just thinking about the Suzuki power plant in the Pro :D

that would be wicked- buddy has a 11 m8 with the full bikeman kit 180hp and it works very well could only imagine that motor in my pro or a suzuki 800 on boost:face-icon-small-coo

--They do fix dimension issues of the stock pistons and give acceptable clearances between cylinder wall and piston.

--Turning up oil pump injects more oil to crankshaft

--Research and verify before you buy though--

wisecos can loose piston ring pin if they are overheated,a known issue.RKtek does not use wiseco, but another brand forged piston with a better locking patent on piston ring pin.
