How many have lost "skirts"

anyone else still waiting on backordered parts, im going on 2 months without a sled now.. bout to go nuts, this year has been a huge bust for me.

The engine on my 11 went down last weekend at 950 miles. Not sure what caused it yet, it is at the dealer waiting for them to get to it. I do know it was the PTO side that went down, both pistons were really sloppy in the cylinders but the PTO side was way worse and the cylinder was trashed, there was also debris in the cylinder that looked like reeds??? Something also happened in the bottom end also because it will only turn over about a half of a revolution then it locks up. I turned the oil ratio up and it was always running about 8000 RPM. Hopefully they can get to it soon!!

i would also think the bluing is at least partically caused by having the oil pump turned down too low and A LOT of the cfi motors are not running enough oil, imo. personally, i want to be around 32:1 on a deep wide open day. that's about where i'm at now, +/-. was around 42:1 or so before. was pushing 60:1 on days with more trail miles. the lower oil consumption is for epa purposes only, two-strokes are still two-strokes.

pv

I cranked my oil pump way way way up on my 2011 pro and am still only using approximately 3 ounces of oil per gallon or approx 42 to 1. I have also been adding one ounce of oil per gallon to the fuel. The additional oil in fuel was suggested by a friend that runs a rental fleet who has seen serious improvement in longevity by doing so.

Add me to the list, New proud Polaris owner for 1 day before it happened. It was a sweet day though. 550 miles 2011

well another week goes by, parts still backordered, bout to lose my cool i cant take not riding anymore.... first they said i was getting a shortblock, then i was getting a rebuild, now im getting a shortblock again and its backordered, anyone have any info on theres getting fixed???

is yours a 2011. The short block motor is definently on back order but other engine components should no longer be on back order. Pistons are available

IMO, the issue is not with the rod ratio but more with the piston and cylinder design

So, it is clear the piston issue is alleviated by installing different pistons...........

How is the cylinder issue remedied???

I am a Doo guy but ride with a fair few Poo guys so don't flame me but here is what I am seeing. The Pro chassis is running super hot coolant temps on the trail in. The older RMK in our group has lots of cooling due to big heat exchanger. I wonder if most of the failures are on the Pro and not the basic RMK because I am told the basic has an extra exchanger? Secondly how many guys actually keep a close eye on the temperature and use scratchers?

--There is not a cylinder issue other than being constantly hammered by the loose piston

If the piston is loose, whose to say the cylinder skirt isn't loose in the case. Obviously nobody bought the Polaris quality control guy a new tape measure after the Dragons.

--There is not a cylinder issue other than being constantly hammered by the loose piston

That would be my opinion on the matter as well however RKT's post did say "IMO, the issue is not with the rod ratio but more with the piston and cylinder design"........................

Please don't take this the wrong way but do you have "hands on" experience to support your above statement???

ok im not going to get to excited about what im reading here but whats being said sounds like the 11 poo motor has some piston issues at about 1200 + miles im at 1200 miles on my sba is a top end freshin up with forged pistons a good preventive right now if so what is the piston of choice that everyones using cause unless wisco has a new piston i will never use those pos again

--People are losing their engines with as few as 500-600 miles. Some with 2x. Some running seemingly OK past 2000.

--My opinion--forged may not be necessary, just pistons sized for proper cylinder clearance.

---Maybe give a couple shops that sell drop in kits a call and get a feel for what is the best approach for you. There are different opinions as to the OEM problem, but they "all" seem to offer better pistons/rings than OEM.
