Golden conditions

I guess this means that they will be posting a forestry worker at the bottom of every avalanche chute that crosses a FSR in B.C? Whats the purpose of the escort? So more people get killed? Post a frcking "travel at your own risk" sign and be done with it, I am sick of these pr!cks wasting my tax dollars. I will be phoning everyday.

I phoned there a couple weeks ago now... left a few voicemails, and no one has got back to me yet.

I agree; anyone concerned about riding around there should call in.

Several well made points though... When i talked to CHATTER, they said they had nothing to do with the closures, and were taking OUR side of things, as in trying to get the road open, so it's closed to everyone but skiers, B.C. Foresrty, and Chatter Staff?
Then why, when it comes time to CHATTER taking OUR money, will it most absotively posolutely be opened for sled traffic?

Who suggested Chatter had something to do with the closure? Skiers aren't transported on this road, they are flown in, the road is required for taxiing in staff and supplies. The ministry of forests has closed the road, so yah, if they want then I suppose they could pass, they are the governing body in charge of the road.

I think it is a great idea that people are calling the number posted and expressing their concern about the importance of the area being accesible, but please, please don't call to be rude or disrespectful, it will not get us anywhere. If you are going to call or write, do it in a mature and polite manor, try to help portray sledders as a responsible and intelligent group of people, not a bunch of angry rowdy hicks.

It sounds like all the proper measures are being taken, phone calls and letters will be helpful, but like I said above don't make us as a back country user group look like azzholes.

Cheers.

No one said Chatter had something to do with it.... a rock came down, whose fault is that?

I said that Chatter was trying their hardest to get the road open to atleast their staff, and everyone else, if possible.

I been talking to Chatter Creek's office in Golden about the situation, but no matter how many voicemails(yes, polite) I leave B.C. MOF, they wont get back to me.

rode quartz creek today (no road closures on highway 1 between golden and quartz parking lot ) ....it was good, had to search pretty hard for fresh, I could see the trenches and holes from where I was stuck exactly 3 weeks ago, not much snow recently, 15-30cm's in the past 2 weeks maybe??? It snowed hard all day and the visibility came and went, leaving the lot at 5 this afternoon it was snowing really hard, still is in downtown Golden, environment canada forcast shows 4-5 days of snow. After tonight and a few days of snow quartz will be amazing. Have also heard really good things about Lang (zone accessed from gorman) and silent, hoping to get to both those spots next week.

People seemed pretty stoked when the got to the shop yesterday and today. Must be some solid fresh out there! I'm sure a little tracked now after the holidays, but that only makes a better base for the next snow fall!!
Finally! Winter is here!!

Rode Silent Pass on Tuesday, 30th. Unloaded at 17km mark. Trail in was good up until you make the left hand turn. From there the trail was bumpy up to the trail through the trees to the waterfall. Once up top we were treated to about a foot of fresh pow! Nice riding.:)
Snowed overnight and headed to Quartz Creek on Wednesday, 31st. Trail was excellent all the way in. Had been groomed, with maybe 6 inches of a fresh coating - very smooth. Seems to be more powder at Quartz than Silent. 2 to 3 feet anyhow. Visability was limited, so played down low in the trees off to the left of the warming hut and had a blast in the powder. :face-icon-small-hap
Stayed away from any steep climbs due to the avy warnings. I don't get it... some people are still tempting fate!:(
For those of you planning to stay at the Golden Rim Motel and looking forward to a hot tub at the end of the day....... don't, as the pool and hot tub are closed for renovations.:(

We were up yesterday too...horrible trail. They groom it once a week -supposed to be Wednesdays. We were up there a few times this week and it hasn't been groomed for a couple weeks. They had a low sled count after Xmas and probably decided to skip the week...kinda ridiculous with it being a holiday weekend! You'd think if they charge for the trail they'd groom. Those of us that do go and pay for it deserve to have a decent ride in. We asked at the bottom if it was groomed as it wasn't a few days ago, but she didn't know. They could probably tell her to let people know if they skipped the grooming that week! Nice to know what you're in for.
Other than that, we had a great day-weather was great and snow is getting better! The snow in the forecast all week will get all the last landmines covered.

Went up Quartz yesterday, snapped a few pics at the end of the day (I was in a bad position but some came out OK). Lots of snow, plenty of turns to be had. More in the forecast for the next week as well.
