Golden conditions

Hey guys the temps are warming up and snow is on the way for wed. friday/saturday!
Stoked!

Hope is closed for the year, no bull****.. we went there Sunday and we escorted out by a BC forestry officer... you'll be ticketed if you are caught in there. Apparently the road is closed due to unstable rock above. But just so you know it is only closed to us douchebag sledders!!! The Chatter creek skiers are allowed past the closure point. Seriously, that what he told us!! If it is dangerous, and that is why they shut it down, then nobody should be allowed... We had to leave and ride a half day elsewhere. We were not a happy bunch of sledders Sunday... Hope is my favourate Golden area, if it's closed, I not riding here anymore.. On to Revy... Some of our other fellow snowesters were escorted out too..

I'm thinking of writing BC forestry..

Please do! You aren't the only one upset over it. Chatter creek is allowed past 3 times a week at set times of the day, this compromise was made for them so they could actually operate their business, other than heli there is no way for staff and supplies to get in. This item was tabled at the Golden Snowmobile Club meeting last week, Ministry of Forest engineers have deemed it is a multi million dollar repair, they are in the process of figuring out all the particulars about fixing it, and who will front the bill. There is talk of BC Hydro being partially responsible for the road, and also LP has a fair amount of timber to be harvested beyond this blockage, so they may also be involved in the repair. I would be very shocked if it were not reopened, just for now it is a huge liability (of theirs) to have people passing through it as they please.

Besides, you can still ride hope, look at the video above!

hey, that's what we did, we parked at the road closure end and sleded almost to the trail head before we got caught..

I called BC Forestry today..... talked to the operations manager for the area - He Indicated that the road is going to be closed until next summer until they can properly asses it. I guess the first slide came down, and the geo-physical engineers assesed it and built a plan to clean up. As this was in the planning stages, a second slide came down. Too much snow and debris to properly asses it. Besides that they still have to decide who is going to foot the $500,000 clean up bill. So it is going to stay closed until at least next summer.

He also indicated that Chatter creek is able to get in and out at planned times with an escort through the slide area. I asked him about access for Sledders and he told me that Chatter is a large scale operation that needs access to the area, and they cannot accomodate a small number of recreational back country snowmobilers, so were not allowed in or around the slide!!!!

Anyway, thats the official story right from the Forestry operations manager for the area.

Just thought I would get to the bottom of the official story.....

Hey fredw - AND ALL SNOWESTERS

B.C. Forestries 1-250-837-7611

Here is the B.C. Forestry Number you can ALL call them Directly. I know it probably won't happen overnight, but perhaps if we bombard their office with phone calls they will MAYBE start to feel some pressure from the (Quote)

"very small group of select backcountry snowmobilers that use this road for access to recreational areas"

As the operations manager for this area told me on the phone today..... once again sledders are being marginalized..... anyways another topic for another day but we SHOULD start to put pressure on B.C. forestries so they understand this access is important to a lot more of the tax paying public than they perhaps realize.....
