Golden conditions

it's true, in the morning it is super hard! But it is still so fun up high in the afternoons on sunny days!! Riding this time of year does require maybe higher then average avy knowledge, but man, it is a jumpfest out there! For anyone who is into jumping you'll have a blast! And for any of you who are looking for casual exploring GAME ON! for those looking for powder shredding summarize your sled, it's over! hahahaaaaa post some photos of powder days gone by!

Quartz trail

Can anyone tell me if the road into Quartz is still open, or if there is a plan to close the road for the summer?

I read some wheres this winter it was to be closed due to damage being done from ruts in the spring which I think is total BS as I've seen mini vans drive up to the first bridge or the trail over to Quartz lake.

My family goes up there every summer for a picture & picnic, I've never seen ruts deaper than about 3".

Thanks for any info.

We rode Gorman last Saturday and tried to go up Quartz on Sunday but the road was really soft and soupy. We made it to the snowline ~6km up but turned back because it was threatening rain and I didn't want to be stuck up there.

There's a sign at the bottom of Quartz saying "road closed Apr-Jun" and I see why. A lot of the road surface is slick snot-like mud. I've been spring riding and 4x4'ing up logging roads for 15 years and Quartz road made me very nervous.

FYI Gorman access was still good (unloaded at 13km) and the lake was just starting to show blue melting signs around the edges.

EDIT: I should have read your post more carefully - sounds like you were wondering if it's closed for the summer. The sign only says Apr-Jun closed. Note there are presently 8" ruts from someone with skinny tires going up a few weeks back.

Rode Gorman yesterday (Saturday 24th of May).
Awesome spring riding! Little rock for this time of year, it seems to be staying cold up high. Weather does look warmer this week coming up though... We could see down into Quartz Creek (lower) and it looked pretty green. From the cabin up looked white though! I think Gorman has the easiest access for late spring!

So is that goat trail from Gorman up on top of the ridge and down into East Quartz pretty well established? I mean do people go up and over from Gorman to Quartz all winter or just the brave ones and conditions permitting?

A month ago there was a decent track to follow but 2 weeks ago it was windblown and would have been pretty tricky to climb.

We were going to try and get at it from the East Quartz side 2 weeks ago.

It is a touchy spot for sure...
I don't recommend going in there unless you consider yourself a 'strong rider', and everyone in your group the same.
East Quartz is a dangerous zone, but has really cool features for jumping...
Goat path can be scary at times! haha

Yep what GSR said^^^^.

Don't venture there unless you are good riders on good equipment. If you like to keep the paddles on your track, March is about the only time I would head over, otherwise you can be giving it the old road rash treatment coming back up hitting the big shale boulders underneath...OUCH!

So GSR - hows the lake? Coming Thurs and wondering how soft the lake is....

Where's parking at and hows the trail? Any dirt?

Thanks,

NSC

2 of us coming in on Thursday night. Riding Friday all day and possibly Saturday AM.

Would be interested as to lake conditions on Gorman and where is the snowline for unloading? We were hoping to try getting over to Quartz from Gorman, but it sounds like not a good idea from comments I read earlier in this post.

GSR, have any updates or comments? Anyone else?

I called Motortech today and no one had any recent updates to Gorman.

Thanks.

FWIW May 17 we unloaded at Gorman 13km, some dirt for a few km up the road and the photo is the ridge where you ride across before dropping into East Quartz.
