Friend or Foe, deciding who's a poser in the parking lot

I don't mind taking people who are learning if they're up front about it. The trip I hated was taking 2 guys who showed up in 100k rig with mod mountain sleds, talking like they're one of us and then turned out to be psycho drunks who couldn't even ride.

Could this be Fordy and Gravy?

Interesting.......

But the one thing I'm without is a beacon. I noticed that alot of people seem to deem a worth while rider as someone with a beacon. Does that make or break a deal? Am I going to get left in the parking lot because of that?
I do make exceptions on occasion, but yeah; there's a good chance I would say "No, unless you have a beacon you'ren ot riding with me".

Personally, if you can afford a mountain sled of your own then you can afford a beacon. If you ride an old 440 fan and stay on trails, ride 3-4 hours and call it good, i'd make an exception to the beacon rule.

Helmet/beacon/avy gear are things i require... Riding without a helmet's just dumb, that right there tells me I don't want to ride with you. My asss depends on your having and knowing how to use avy equipment. I'm real selfish like that. Tekvest, radio, gps, food, water, adequate clothing, etc.... I suggest them, but leave that up to you to decide. Don't expect sympathy from me if you find yourself needing any of the above.

I wouldn't call that selfish, not much point in you even turning your beacon on if the guys riding with you don't have one....

No helmet??? Haven't seen that one yet... sure come along, its your head to freeze or lose... :D

My .02

I've never had the problem with people in the parking lot, but the line "my buddy from work wants to go?" is when the trouble starts. Has anyone had trouble with "hey my wife wants to go?" and what do you say to him? I had a day long ride planned and a buddies wife wanted to go and she got cold and we went back home after 10 minutes of riding. What do you say when she wants to go???

Met some good people and made some friends for years,in the parking lot.
Being prepared is important, shovel, beacon, probe, and knowledge on how to use them.
I like a couple cold frosty one's also...after the ride:beer;
Knowing your riding group is important,......if I'm riding with the wife;) then I know that I'm not going to ride as aggressively as with the boys. She can hang OK ......but:)
You never know if new friends may show you secret areas, you didn't know were there.

I'll usually wait until I've seen them on the hills a few times then maybe ride with them after i've seen them ride.

Although I have met some people in parking lots who have invited us with them and showed us new areas that we've never seen before.

Ok... gotta ask. Being a mostly a non-drinking man, you won't hafta worry about me getting plowed on a ride. But the one thing I'm without is a beacon. yes, no beacon, no ride

How are you going to find me if you don't have a beacon? If you can afford a sled, and the gas, you can surf craigslist or the swap meet here for a used $100 beacon.
