clutching problems

i have a 2005 skidoo summit 800 and my clutch vibrates really bad off idle then gets smooth untill 8000 rpm then it starts to shimmy and lose rpm can you help? i talked to a couple of guys and they said i might be able to take it to a dealer and get it rebuilt what do you think?

That sounds pretty bad, I wouldnt run it anymore until its fixed. I'm sure a dealer would rebuild it for you at a pretty high cost. Most of the stuff inside is pretty striaght forward. I have working on mine for years. pretty much everything except changing bushings. By doing searches and asking on here you could probably do it yourself. Or ask on here if someone near you could help you. Probably your best bet is to send it to Dynamo Joe off here, he really knows his stuff. Good luck

I'd have the shop take a look see. Sounds like the bushings are worn out and you have a major clearance issue. Are the pins all the same weight? Are the clickers all set the same? We stagger them for grass drags, but that is only for 500' and the sled will never see snow again. Clutch also gets rebuilt every season.

Pop the primary off and run a dial indicator on the end of the crank stub, 1/8 inch from the end, in.
Maximum deflection is .0024.
800 cranks notorious for excessive deflection, wears out wear parts quite quickly.
