Climate change

Seen one of these today, looks better in person.

It has gross and curb weights of around 10,550 lbs and 9,063 lbs, respectively, allowing it to earn a heavy-duty vehicle rating. On the other hand, the 2022 Rivian R1T is a class below the Hummer EV Edition 1

What ? Just because it's a pig doesn't make it a heavy-duty vehicle.

Battery pack is 1,750lbs

Comparison

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/Gross and Curb weight of around 10,250lbs and 6,105 to 6,950 lbs ,

Duramax and Allison transmission 1,180 lbs

3/4 ton with a GVW >10K#? o_O
IDK why not tho?
the price tag is more than a dually should be anyhow....

Fourwheeler magazine took one (two actually?) of those Rivian's down Black Bear Pass (I think it was) last summer.

They just had a test run with an EV Hummer just last month.

The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is basically the maximum total safe weight of your vehicle, counting the curb weight (the weight of our vehicle when empty), plus the weight of your passengers, fuel, any accessories added to the vehicle, cargo, and the “tongue weight” of a tow trailer

A half ton pickup full tank of fuel a sled and passengers is basically maxed out . There's also a reason why sales people up front don't direct you to a HD when you bring it up, it's not thier job requirement.

two sleds and your over loaded

Last I knew, a 1 ton SRW truck maxed out at 9990# or 10k even.
At 10,001 and up and you need a medical card for commercial use.

Never heard of the 10k rule you’re talking about but everyone around here is in violation if true.
Myself since age 14.
Have several pickup and semi trucks licensed with Commercial plates and never a mention of medical card.

I know California requires a medical exam/card for a commercial license. Can’t remember if it’s good yearly or every two years.

All depends on where you live and your upbringing , some of the Diesel pickups now are rated at 20,000 pounds towing. It's the nut behind the wheel that matters . I try to give all rigs a wide birth and will block when needed but I'm cautious and keep my distance with the weekend warriors.

Any "commercial" application with a GVW over 10K requires a medical card.
Don't need the CDL until 26,001.

The med card is good for up to 2 years, depending on your current shape and history.
That is up to your doctor.

Commercial includes race cars and horses.
Anything that you are competing, and could possibly win a purse, is considered "for profit".

Maybe they haven't been pushing it your over your way, but the last 20 years around here has been pushed pretty hard.
We had to get DOT #'s for our ton trucks, and med cards for the drivers.
