Chain case life Gen 5

I am aware of what parts are needed, I did the solid driveshaft swap already.

can you please confirm what parts are needed? I don't know enough about the drive shaft connections to be sure....what in the G5 stays and what in the 22 needs to be ordered to put it back together with a solid shaft?

You will need a 2022 driveshaft assembly and the 2022 speed sensor oring.

Looks to me guys are sharing the same picture over and over and trying to make the problem look bigger than it is ?wonder if he got up to the recommended amount of adjustment turns ?
This is unreal I can’t believe brp hasn’t recognized this issue publicly. There’s no chance I’d purchase another skidoo until this problem is addressed. I’d be scared to take one out to the backcountry
I can assure you the photo of my sled is not some regurgitated interweb pic.....chain tension was also adjusted with the cover off so no endless turns and over tightening here. I have seen two more exploded cases first hand on the mountain since mine went. Truly mind-blowing.

I believe he was being sarcastic.

Did you get warranty? What was the outcome?

I called in some big favors and was able to locally source a set of HYVO gears and chain plus a new chain slider. Swapped them back in on the hill at -23C and then rode it out. There is significant grooving to the inner case under the lower gear and also slap marks on the cover and upper inner case. However, the case still holds oil so I was very luck. I was just coming out of a big downhill line went to turn around just feathering the throttle at slow speed when it let loose. In another 30 seconds I would of been full pin up through the trees and would rather not think about what would of happened if it broke then......

Glad it worked out.
Are you starting a case with BRP?

Add another failure to the list… g5 expert turbo 165. My chain broke yesterday and ruined both cases. I adjusted my chain tension after every ride. I’ve never seen a chain stretch so much. The chain snapped and then broke out the bottom of the chaincase and cover.

I’m 230 lbs and ride pretty hard. I did not have these issues with my 20.5 turbo or my 21 turbo. The non-hyvo chain and gears cannot handle the power.
My wife also rides a g5 turbo 165 and her chain isn’t stretching but she only weighs 120 and does not ride as aggressive.

Sorry bud this sucks . One plus is it’s towards the end of the year not first week in.
Not at all your fault but this is what happens to a chain that needs to be tightened every few rides sooner or later it breaks
I’ve put over 1500 kms on my 23 after the solid shaft and hyvo swap and haven’t had to adjust chain yet . When you have that apart I’d do the tki fix kit at the very least

In all theae people that have had there chain break not one person has said if skidoo covered it? So what is skidoo saying to you guys?

Whether it is the end of the year or not, these failures should be unacceptable. How many chain case explosions have been upgraded by BRP and how many by the owners wallet? Also how many are waiting on back order parts to put the same problem back in the chain case or is BRP upgrading the failed units?I would just like comments on any progress

we'll never know how many have grenaded but a substantial number occurred early in the season and that rate has probably remained constant. i switched to hyvo and TKI as soon as i heard about the issue for a few of reasons one being, the 400 or so spent on parts is well worth not getting choppered off the mountain, i also knew the wait on proper replacement parts were going to essentially end the season, and installing all the parts is a very easy job so i took no chances. no issues thus far.

Curious if you had the hitch pin on the adjuster bolt through the hole so it cannot back off or if it was “around” the adjuster bolt like it comes from Doo and is shown in the manual?
I have a feeling that some of the failures are a loose chain due to the adjuster backing off under the right conditions. It could happen in a matter of seconds at the right vibration frequency.
Having that pin around the adjuster never made sense to me, put mine through the bolt from day one on my 22.
Curious if others have had the failure with the pin through the hole. ??

interesting. i’ve yet to see anyone’s pin around the bolt. they’ve all been thru it.

The hitch pin has been coming “around” the adjuster bolt from the factory for a long time now. I would think if there is a certain vibration frequency that causes it to back off it would be addressed by now.

Dang, would an aftermarket belt drive eliminate this issue, or would it just blow belts faster as well? granted, blown belt is not nearly as catastrophic. Dont think i would waste money on chain upgrades myself unless your just trying to finish out a sled trip or race or something.

I'm a bit curious about what happens first. Is it the powder forged bottom gear that fractures and then takes everything else out or? (I haven't followed this closely but judging by the pics I've seen that seems likely).

Would a billet bottom gear from, for example, a -20 Expert add life time to the system? Or doesn't it fit together with chain/top sprocket? (At least my friend's -20 Expert had a billet bottom gear, don't know if they all had them)

If I would blow my chain ands sprockets, I would ask dealer to order bw hyvo chain and sprockets from old turbo to replace old parts
