Good Morning All:

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some emergency phone #'s for the Castlegar area or which ever would respond to the Nourns/Ladybird areas.

I want to pre-program some numbers into a satellite phone that either I or my boys will be carrying while riding up there. I am looking for the following:

1. Helicopter Service that would fly into those areas.

2. Ambulance contact that would respond to the parking lot/lots.

3. Local search & rescue for those areas.

4. The local RCMP or law agency that operates the 24 hour communications switch board for all the area responders. Here in the US it is the local 911 center. They dispatch police, fire, ambulance, S&R, Med Copter, things like that around the clock everyday.

5. Anything else you think I might need for an emergency in that area.

We carry marine radios for our personal communication, but they also have the common channel 16 which is where most marine communication happens in the US. Is 16 the marine channel in BC too. If you radio from your boat to the marina, what channel would you use? Here in the US you can contact a marina from just about any mountain we ride with these 5 watt radios. I have used them from my couch up to 30+ miles line of sight to Calispel Mountain where the boys were riding. Is there a marina within 30 miles as the crow flies of say the airport or any other close high spot?

Thanks in advance for any help. Look forward to meeting more of you this year. EW

Coxy, I think it's time for a new Avitar. That is assuming your not still at the Border sleeping in your new rig. lol

Thanks again Eric, really appreciate all the your help, and kindness man. Sure took a bunch of stress off of getting this truck back, thats for sure. You wouldnt of believed how easy it was to get through the border(s), it was less stressful then a normal trip across, but maybe 20 minutes longer then normal, thats it, unbelievable! So yeah, just gotta get an inspection hopefully tomorrow, and im golden. Just lemme know when your in the need for some Chinese food dude, my treat, come on up.
If i have the day off tomorrow, ill get some phone numbers for the chopper, and LAPD (Castlegars finest), SAR, etc. Thanks alot buddy,
Brian

How's the riding? Saw some pics of a carport that collapsed in Trail and the old man said that you have been getting some rain lately and heavy snow. Anyone know the conditions up top? Anyone been up ladybird lately? Planning a couple spring days in late March/April and looking for info to plan a couple rides.

How's Grassy? and up over the top? Anyone been in Porcupine lately? or up Blaze Creek/Arkansas Lake over the top of the Salmo-Creston? Ever been to Devil's Hole?

Any help is appreciated.

Thx.

Freezing level has been around 3500', so up top there's still plenty of powder! No tracks up Grassy yet, avalanche danger is still pretty high, not sure if people are getting into Marble yet, that trail needs some serious brushing come summer. The Beaver Valley club is trying to tell people that they are the only ones with authorization from Darkwoods/Pluto, the company who owns (?)/manages Porcupine. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just lock your stuff up at the bottom, never know what the eco-nazis are going to do.

There's a new road into Devils Hole, we quadded right to the lake last summer, Elmo is still a fun ride though, just the quad/hiking trail into that one. Should be able to find someone from the Creston club with info on Arkansaw/Blazed. Not sure if they're winter logging up there.

He's probably talkin about the ol' Hi-Lite in downtown Castlegar. That place is like walkin back into 1969.........

:)

ss_badaz, let me know next time you're heading down there, I'd be up for a trip if you're leaving from Calgary. I could have got you to take a sled I bought for my dad back to Castlegar with ya this weekend, but I didn't pick it up yet (going in about an hour). Oh well, next time.
