Caribou Hills

It'll be toasty warm while I'm hammering nails though!
Rumor has it that it's going to warm up for next weekend. That's when I'm going to ride!

Just got back from a cold day in the hills. Trails are all groomed smoother than the highways and hard as a rock. Snow in the trees and valleys wasn't too bad. Nothing to brag about but better than I had expected with all the cold and wind after the rain back a while. You know your Jonesing to ride when it's this cold snow sucks, and you go anyway!!! Got to say we had a good day. 75 miles, and all thrree sleds went back on the trailer in the same shape they came off.

was down there yesterday, rode tustumena side. In the trees and backside of the swamps it was great snow. Chest deep in the trees and still light powder. windblown out in the open, but some really good snow still to be found.

I spent the wekend up in the hills sticking close to the cabin because of cold near blizzard like conditions! Lot'sa wind and horizontal snow. Monday cleared up some and we went up on the dome in the PM. Good snow in the trees but some nice fluff on the lee side of the hills. Today it warmed up but the winds returned with wet heavy snow.

I have to go down to Clam Gulch to mark my property for clearing this weekend. Would it be worth pulling my sled down for a ride?

Do it... it was great riding on Monday... and still should be pretty good riding when you get up into the hills. this morning temp 29 degrees and they've been getting some fresh snow acording to the cabin hoppers web site. I have a feeling that most of the precipitation over the last couple days has been mostly snow up in the high country. Clam gulch trail I'm sure is still very rideable, mabey a bit icy in the mornings though.

There is still lots of snow in the Caribou Hills but for the most part its pretty set up. The valleys have some good riding and the burnt hill tops and high country is so set up you can cruise through it pretty well, but the burnt valleys are full of crispy black land mines. It would be really easy to break a bar in your track at the very least, or maybe end up with a broken hood, air box, belly pan, and bent bulkhead like me....

Be carefull and stay out of the logged and burned areas if possible.

Went riding there saturday not that great of conditions flat light but still was riding. No broken parts for me lucky. A friend with his rev broke the front bumper and punctured a hole straight through the ski plate looked like someone took a pipe and just broke right on in. We went up and over high country and still not that great of snow down there but hey no avalanches right haha...

Those burned off alders are sharp and tough as hell! I've seen a few other sleds with punctured plastic from them. I hope I don't ever fall on one!

hills

Went in clam shell hard so used scratchers(2" paddle track) to straight in there's about 2 to 3inches then over to trophy lake and along high country there was about 3 to 4 inches good for smooth ride to water hole trail. started to snow south water hole trail. staying in the 20's up high.To work tomorrow:mad: but might have to take a vacation day or two!:D

I just got back from a trip to the hills and there is alot of snow still. It's pretty firm and go anywhere point and shoot snow. I heard that high country is still open but I didn't ride there. I was working on the cabin, still rebuilding after the fire.
