what would happen? turbo carb question

Hey, would this work what would happen. I know its more complicated than this but im curious. So anyway, What would happen if you sealed the airbox on a 800ho dpm ski doo engine and either put two high cfm electric fans or a turbo from the exhaust in there (more for the electric fans)? And side note would dpm still function correctly?

did anyone ever get any power-jet adjusters? i have a customer that wants them i would like a couple sets.

Rob is barried in boats and christmas decorations :face-icon-small-win right now, I dont know if he will be on here. I can pass on the message. Maybe anyone interested can PM me a name and phone # and I will make a list to pass on to him.

If I remember right he gets $75 per adjuster. That could be wrong, but I think thats what it is...

Gus,

Couple quick questions.

I picked up an old aero turbo system for an exciter. If memory serves me right it's a first choice turbos system....

I need to junk the hobbs switch and get a fuel regulator. Do you have a recommended one to use? I've done some looking and I'm not sure what brand or part number to use. I read somewhere the Bosch ones are inexpensive and work well.

Also, where's the best place to get powerjets? I've looked at the Thunder Power jets but I'm not sure what's best.

Also, what advice can you give me for this little motor? How much boost can I run and what can I do to the block to help it hold together?

Thanks for all the help. A turbo is just what this little project needs. :face-icon-small-ton

Welcome to the old days..LOL Aerodyne dallas..LOL

first, my preference is an aeromotive universal bypass regulator, use the softer spring that comes with it. and be good to go.

Powerjets can be purchased from cpi or jack harris out of kaysville utah.
both of witch have excellent prices..

as far as what to do to the engine,,,??
what alt are you riding at ?
what fuel will you run?
what boost is your goal?

remeber, a stock port time is better than even trail ported..

look for the reg in the jegs catalog,, its a nice unit thats been very dependable..

Gus

Thanks Gus! I've got an Aeromotive 13301 on the way.

To answer your questions.

I ride about 9,000 to 11,000 ft.
I plan on running full race 114 octane.
I was thinking about 10-12 lbs boost.

I'm not real concerned with blazing to the top of the biggest hills I just want a cool rig the rips pretty good.

Right now the motor is stock. Nothing done to it. I'm not sure if I need to reduce compression or anything like that.

Thanks for your help Gus.

Well after a year of gathering parts and studying on turbochargers plus talking to the right people it's go!! time on getting this project rolling. My first hurdle was on the aluminum welding, do i pay someone to do it and run back and forth to welding shops. I Decided to teach myself to tig weld and bought a miller diversion 180 because I have the feeling once I experience boost I will be building other projects. So last night I built the boost box and tonight the oil box. I burned a few rods of aluminum on a scrap pieces, watched a few how to videos on youtube. So here is the out come it's not pretty but it should do the trick.

Nothing to be ashamed of here.
Looks good for a first timer.

Question.

Would a 12v diesel lift pump that puts out 5 to 7 spi work to pump oil to a BB turbo. I'm sure someone already thought of it and tried it.

a little update on the 440 turbo mod, things are starting to look like something. I started the prefit and relized that I never got flanges. Here are a few pics.

the pump is fine for a ball turbo with NO restrictor at the inlet.
use 5 weight synth nothng heavier..

for drags and speed runs I use 5 weight showa fork and shock oil..no kiddin..

Gus

your work looks good, funny how scary it was and how simple it is to turbo your combo..

glad you jumped in man

I gotta start paying attention to this thread again. I'm going to enjoy watching the progress on the voodoo doo.

My project this year (Tm8) is just about finished but this is the wrong thread for that.

Good luck with the project. It was a gas to do my first turbo last year.

If any of you out there need some parts I think I still have a couple of mallory regs and a mid size walbro fuel pump....perfect for carb setups.

I am bit, so boosted is now a way of life....good luck

Tony.. by all means post it here too.
i'm sure many of these guys as well as myself would like to keep up with your evolution of turboing 2 strokes as well as learn the ins and outs of the cats..

Thanks Gus!

I guess what I meant is that this project is EFI so it really doesn't really belong in a turbo carb thread.

This particular thread is the reason I went boosted last year and for those of you with a six pack and time can go back and see what I learned from Gus and a few others. All of em' were willing to lend a hand to a turbo newbie with a weird project.

I plan on using the same turbo as last year with a tial setup and quite a few other goodies from OVS on an M8. They were very cool about helping me out last year when I met them on a Utah trip.

I hope to apply a lot of what I learned to this project. I should just do a turn key package............but what's fun in that........ :pound:

I put together a test center for my turbo project. I will use this to boost the engine before actualy boosting it. lets say I plan on running 20 psi of boost I'll pressurize the motor to 25 to 30 and do a leak down test looking for pressure lost or seal failures. And also use this for for checking charge tubes ,air box and so on. I can also check exhaust to turbo by leaving the the piston down exposing all the ports , I'll have to block off at turbo flange. I'm also using this for fuel pump pressure with run off and also oil pump. If this needs to be tweaked further I'm all ears and always looking for ways to improve.

Just be carefull with the pressure source..
dont have 120 psi behind you,,

You will not blow out seals. that only happened to a few when they had lean backfires ..
You wont blow out seals,, even Joshs 800 at 25 psi with NO seal retainer plate has never pushed the seals...not once..

the few who have,, had a backfire that caused it, you ownt be that lean Mike.
We aint gonna let ya...:bump2:

Got it covered Gus I have a pressure regulator on the test center and shut off ball valves, I'll pressurize the gauge before dumping the pressure to the motor. All this is for peace of mind eliminating possible leaks in the system.

A little progress report. I worked on the plumbing tonight and installed the power jets on the carbs. I liked the idea of using cat carbs because of the deep bowls. All I needed to do was tap the bowls and the bells and voila!!

Exept for running out of argon things were going well. I can't get over how fast that little bottle empties, guess I'll get a bigger bottle monday. I made the carb pressure equalizer bar and half welded on for now. I can't get over how easy this stuff is to make. WHO WHOOO!! can't wait to see what a boosted 440 feels like on a 300 lb lay down mod.
