Thanks for the kind words Gus, but I can't brag big yet, as well as she ran, she was a little farther from perfect than I like to see.
I found a lot of things that I would like to pass on from a "generic system" point of view. Most of the things I could improve upon were dealing with mounting and sealing. Exhaust and airbox would be two places that I want to spend a lot more time. I seemed to use more than my share of exhaust donuts, so I need a better springy dingy sysem. I got my airbox attachment pretty dang reliable but it could use a bit more engineering. I also found that vent/pressure hoses can not be "too protected"!
Other things that seemed to require attention: The mallory fuel regulator needed an adjustment twice per ride. Maybe a heat issue???? I found that grounding the motor and chassis helped with some sort of static charge that would affect my guages. Who knows, it could cause havoc with other things in the electrical system too. I found that when I run the turbo solid to the pipe that a 16(not 18) guage outlet pipe is mandatory.
Oh and very important(to me) the float bowl pressure hose has to be connected to the airbox away from the flow stream into the carbs. Somewhere inbetween the two carbs worked for me. Actually.... left the season looking at a different spot away from the airbox, but didn't have time to test it
The things I didn't have to mess with: Oiling system: the injector pump fed the turbo consistantly. I also let it feed the bottom of the motor with the 0-20 Mobil 1.(no prob) I did replenish the 2-4 OZ of oil every weekend that it used. The oil box never puked.... life was good...LOL The external walbro fuel pump was never looked at again. The bridge rectifier never failed me. My pipe reinforcement tabs seemed to work. Never had a seam failure on the DD monster pipe all season.
Another thing I found being a guage geek, I loved my fuel pressure guage the most. It gave me three readings all at once. The most obvious was fuel, secondly I could see the boost signal was working and most importantly the electrical system was making enough power to run the system. When I was using the pipe signal to run the fuel reg I could also see what the exhaust back pressure was......way too cool!
I also found that clutching is quite different than I was expecting. I bought some good stuff from OVS that helped me to jump ahead in the learning curve.
Putting aside, me not expecting how much fuel this motor likes. Carb tuning is very basic and straight forward. My only carb bug was the (part throttle)let off enrichening(flooding) issue, but I see a slight issue with some of my EFI buddies sleds too. Mine is just more dramatic.
The very COOLEST thing about my morphadite setup was... with carbs... the sled started first time every time(during a ride) and two to three pulls at first start of the day. I used a primer system for first start and never again the rest of the day. I didn't have to use a bypass switch or other tricky contraptions.
I guess my advise to any one else wanting to do a home brew turbo. Do it for the knowledge and the huge amount of satisfaction(hopefully)...... don't do it cause it's cheaper..........cause it's prolly not.....LOL
PS: I guess I want some more knowledge...cause here I go again......TM8?.........heh heh heh
