Camoplast Tracks: 2.5" Peak vs. 2.6" Power Claw vs. 3" Challenger Extreme

Tell me about this soft tip issue on hard pack/icy snow. anyone gotten into trouble on icy conditions climbing with the X3 or CE 3incher?

so

Got mine from Michelle at OTS.
Going to install soon.. Will check clearance on my M sled 09. Heard conflictingrreports of if it fira without 7 tooth drivers.. I'm OK with buying drivers Ijjust dontbwant tobreagear and drivers.. From cellphone so .

drop it off and write a check for 1600 bucks!!!!

My question is..... Do I need different drivers? Who makes the wheel kit that makes up for the 3" length differance 153to156 ..... Like the one on the Factory Cat guys sleds, saw them at Haydays.

I have read in a different thread that the stock wheels allow enough adjustment but you get close to the end . Otherwise I suppose a big wheel kit with an offset axle would work .

With all the feedback and testimonials on here......why you buy anything other than a 3" track? The length is up to you, but lug height is a no brainer.

Even if I bought a new xm today....the very first thing I would do is put a 3" under it......its just that dang gone much better.....and of course, the 872.

With the offers being linked to, this is getting more and more tempting...

My last question/why buy something else is harder snow; how does the x3 compare to a 2,6"pc when I'm at the coast, getting numerous weather shifts throughout the season? Heard the pc was good at setup snow.

Thanks

156X3

I just put one on a 2010 M8 with 153 rails and did not change drivers or big wheel kit fit fine.

the 3 inch hooks up just ok on set snow however the downside is the motor will run hotter and very little snow spins into the ex-changers . if your paddles are digging into the snow 2 inches your good to go but the track will not spin much and spin snow upward. Not the best for concrete, buy a trailsled for that. The 3 inch is a purpose built Mountain track.i have missed one rock concrete ride that I passed on. or did i really miss anything at all?

Heres the findings after running the 156X3 all last season. Spools very quick, Track was 63 lbs stock and with one/every other row ports was 62 lbs, Its a lighter lay-up track per "size" than the CE 2.5 was. Tips are soft and flex nicely and belting is flexible after break in.The 3 inch climbs up on top the snow . since the track rides high in the snow the sled is not climbing out of its own trench in addition to the steepness of the hill. This track reduces the actual % the hill the sled is climbing, and the 8-12 inch area behind the drivers does not contact the snow much when up to speed so this hinders performance of longer lengths unless snow is Very cold and bottomless. Once moving the 156 will outclimb the longer 3 inch in many conditions due to the front of the track simply is snowless and the faster 156 track speeds. I,m spinning the 156 at 55 mph+ with the 880 seconds after hitting the flipper. the 156 is working very well even with stock sleds,The longer 3 inch will be a tad quicker to get going due to the extra float but is slower once at speed due to losing track speeds. If your a big guy the longer will be better, Under 200 lbs the 156 will be faster.. I raced a Pro 800 turbo with stock 2.4 track and passed him 1/2 way up a powder climb. Yes its on Vid, The Pro is now changing to a 3 inch as well after that display.. The track is a mountain performer only. Not for racing around at speeds on the trail or lake.I seldom ride over 50 ish on the trails up and motor will run a tad hotter due to less spin and snow hitting the ex-changer.. For all round set snow performance the 2.5 may be a better choice for some however not even close to a 3 inch on the mountain.A bb and 3inch is the best boondocking performer you can get, far better than a Turbo with the instant spool and traction, Once we get to the mountain crest where there are long straight chutes the turbo is in its element and shines in conditions where he can stay on the throttle but in terrain with trees and steeps /variable terrain strong BB/156 is second to none and proven nimble as well. Yes I .m with turbos every ride and they even say thats the ticket in these Sierra conditions. There are treeless areas where pulling chutes all day is the riding style and turbos definitely shine there. The 3 inch is a game changer and this is not a thread about turbos, just helps for comparison.

I See Anthony Oberti,s been on this thread. Now that Boy can ride, My guess is he,ll be runnin a 156X3 on a 2014 Turbo Pro. Now Ive wiatched him dig and dig before the 3 inch and so far up he was on his own LOL. Put him on a 3 inch and he might be in Big Trouble. jus sayin.:face-icon-small-blu

On a Cat you don't need different drivers!
It's not 3" it's only 1.5" in length so you only need extra 1.5" of adjustment on track tension bolts.
All tracks with same part # are NOT the same length. They are far from being precise built. There can be up to 1" differance in total length. Sometimes you need a 1/2" offset axle on a Cat and sometimes not, depends on the track.

The track is not the vibration problem. What causes vibration is removing clips when using small 7 tooth drivers. My last 2.5 with clips removed had small vibration and the new 3 inch fully clipped rolls as smooth as a stock track. 0 vibration. As track rolls over driver with every other clip removed it alters in height in each window as it hits. Hi-lo-hi-lo creating a harmonic vibration. Leave the clip as is and smooth as silk, this is exaggerated when using smaller drivers, not noticeable with larger 8 tooth drivers.

I disagree with part of your answer about vibration. "ALL" 3.0 pitch tracks vibrate, some more than others. Even 2.86 pitch tracks vibrate. 2.52 is smothest running track around.
I will agree with pace 2 clipping will give more vibration and is exaggerated with 7 tooth drivers. 7 tooth will vibrate more than 8 tooth in 3.0 pitch and 2.86 pitch.

Interesting, Thats a bold statement that ALL 3 inch pitch tracks vibrate.I think you will find 1000,s who disagree,,,The older 2.52 tracks were fully clipped, The newer 2.86 tracks are not fully clipped. Ya think maybe something to do with clips? My 3 inch is silky smooth. you can put a cup of coffee on the seat and WOT on a stand. not even a ripple

I don't make bold statements, I state facts. You are the only person I've ever heard say their 3.0 pitch track doesn't vibrate. Be careful with that track it's worth gold.
All 2.86 pitch Camo Extremes are FULLY clipped and have been ever since they came out years ago!! C/E # 9144, # 9102, # 9103,
Lots of 2.52 pitch tracks were Pace 2 and Pace 3 clipping and still smooth as silk.
WOT on a jack stand, there are some great videos on youtube about that.
