BUSTED: The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters

how many tickets have you wrote in the last year?

Thats what pisses me off about Cops. Traffic violations have become such a big source of revenue that cops are no longer doing police work and protecting the public but hiding on the side of the road to find somebody going a few miles over the speed limit. I completley support cops that are out to protect the public but I don't support tickets being handed out for petty traffic violations as this is not protecting the public.

Somebody obviously didn't read the whole post.

No matter what the cops on here say, this kind of thing happens all the time. It has happened to me atleast 3 times. The result, no tickets were issued because I was doing nothing wrong. Nothing makes a cop more angry than when he cant write you up for anything.

That is BS, get a clue.

Let me give you some words of advice. If you get stopped by the "POLICE" be polite and respectful, you will be treated with respect back. If you are then not treated with respect file a complaint, the complaint will then be investigated.

Also, if you are polite and respectful, nine times out of ten the officer will cut you a break. Yes, there are power hungery cops that can be pricks, but if you follow my advice those pricks are taken care of.

Chances are if you have a beef with the "POLICE" you need to look in the mirror, that is probably where the most fault lies.

if your innocent you have nothing to hide.. therefore, no reason to dislike police officers..

GOOD POST R1. WHERES MPS WHEN WE NEED HIM?? ;)

BigJake since you seem to be in the know can you explain the difference between a Peace Officer and Law Enforcement Officer and tell us all which you are please.

This is important information.

PS. I ride with a Peace Officer.

A Peace Officer and a Law Enforcement Officer are technically the same thing. A Police Officer, Deputy Sheriff, etc. are tasked with the duty of keeping the peace. In many instances, in order to keep the peace, laws must be enforced.

I will use this example, You are sitting in your house and you hear screaming and yelling. The man across the street is having a huge party and it is getting out of hand. You try to put up with it, but it is only getting worse and now the intoxicated subjects are on your property. They are very intoxicated and pissing on your prized Rose bush. You politely ask them to leave your property, but they threaten to kick your a$$. Having enough you call the POLICE. The police arrive and disperse the party. Some of the subjects become beligerant with the police, so they have no choice but to arrest them. So in this example in order for the police to keep the peace in your neighborhood they had to enforce the law.

I do very little traffic, unless it's completely blatant. I don't enjoy pissing people off and I like bigger fish. Other than that the only tickets I write are for traffic accidents for the at-fault party.
good to know!!!!! :beer;

I thought there are legal definitions in every state which defines:

The term LEO is a generic term for any public official who enforces laws.

CPL Section 2.10 defines Peace Officers. Some examples are investigators with the dept of taxation, correctional oficers, court officers, etc. (It's a very long definition).

I guess this varies great based on state.

Well jake a complaint was filed on 2 occasions. The result, sheriffs department replied back with," I am not surprised, this certain officer is under alot of stress lately." No action taken against officer by the department. The only thing that came of it was more harassment by the same officer.
Respect is a two way street.
Cops in "Small Town" upper midwest have very few checks and balances. There might be one or two cops in a town of 1000. They can pick and choose what they do and who they pick on.
Another little story. In my town of 800, the town cop beat his wife for several years. Everybody in town knew it, but you cant question a cop or his authority, especially in a small town or your family gets targeted. While this goes on he has several affairs, one with the States Attorney, which she admitted under oath. After some time he ends up shooting his wife in the face with their 10 year old daughter on the bed beside her.
In the end he is in prison for life, one person is dead, and many families are wrecked.

I'm 33 years old and have a perfect record, my parents let me take my lumps and form my own opinions.

Here is what sums it up for me: Cops/HP's in small towns can do almost whatever they want whenever they want. Cops authority can never be questioned. Cops will stick up for other cops.

So report him to a higher level on both of your examples.

i've tried being polite with police. i've also tried being ignorant. either way i have been ticketed but i'm not complaining because every time i've been guilty. if you break the law and get caught, you're probably going to be punished and that's just how it is. doesn't matter right or wrong-fight the battles worth fighting.

WoW, so because I believe in the Bill of Rights I am a scumbag and because I believe in exercising the 4th, 5th and 6th amendments then I must be guilty of something? I hope most of you never sit on a jury.

If you cops are so damn honest when is the last time any of you have explained these amendments and the rights they afford to some scared kid you have cornered before you ran him over with your authority? I am guessing none of you.

All the above responses do kind of prove the point though. Your obvious answer is he must be guilty of something otherwise he should lay down and take it. After all if he has nothing to hide what’s the problem. These are pathetic excuses for a free country! A country that is trending to a not so free country because it citizens lay down for a tyrannical government.

Most of you need to go back and read the post from “TheFlyingFynn” He pretty much nailed it. You also need to teach your kids about the “Bill of Rights” and the remainder of the constitution, if the government and it’s school don’t teach this to your kids then who will?

No wonder our prisons have innocent people locked up http://www.vdare.com/roberts/prison_state.htm and more prisoners per ca pita than any other country in the world. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_pri_per_cap-crime-prisoners-per-capita

Also, you missed my demographics by a mile. My kids, myself, my immediate family, my extended family and my in laws have never been arrested. I am in my 50’s and have been in a professional career for 32 years and have managed a second business for 21 years and a third for 5 years. Been married to the same woman for 30 years. My first kid is a 4.0 student in college when she can afford to go, because she wants to do it on her own and my second kid just bought a house at 20 years old. I haven’t even had a traffic ticket for longer than most of you have been alive. Hardly a family of law breakers and pot growers.

This guy giving parenting advice.....scary.

I dont like cops because most of the laws they enforce are bullshiznit anyway. And cops work for the government, which is corrupt. Writing petty traffic tickets, harrassing kids for skateboarding, enforcing unfair drug laws, entrapment, i could go on and on. How many times ive heard a cop say " I dont make the laws, i just enforce them." Your still an idiot cop. I wouldnt be a cop, because i wouldnt want to enforce laws that I didnt believe in. Same reason i wouldnt become a soldier, because i wouldnt want to fight in an unjust war, just to earn money for a corrupt government. That all cops do for the most part, is collect money for the government by writing petty tickets, and putting people in prison for drugs. I would teach my kids to avoid cops too, because everytime ive seen one , it ends up costing me money. Ive definatley had cops lie to me , and illegally search me, and try to get me to incriminate my self. Small town cops are the worst, and they have way to much authority. Fat aass Silverthorne cops dont work for shhiit. I see them all the time just hang out at the park, or rec center, stuffin their fat faces at the farmers market. Setting up their little speed traps by lake dillon. Why does the speed limit go from 45, to 50, to 55 every mile, so they can sit there and write tickets. They even write tickets to people on BICYCLES where i live. And they give 9 year old kids tickets at the skate park for not wearing helmets. They bust medical marijuana gardens, and kill the plants, even though its 100 percent legal. Ive seen the Silverthorne cops slam a drunk guys head into the pavement so hard he needed and ambulance. Cops in Denver still write tickets for marijuana, even though the City of Denver voted to legalize less than an ounce. Cops dont give a **** about people, they work for the government. Pretty much just brainwashed robot a-holes. :beer;
