broken drive shaft

I was going to bring this up. What did Ski-Doo do for their customers with this problem? I remember guys trying to weld their drive shafts as a precaution. Didn't Ski-Doo provide replacement shafts under warranty?

Yes Skidoo did a recall under warranty, my TNT got one of the first, BO's were a problem.

I'm with TEEROY, let's find a forum fix before the recall, I personally would rather be out riding, than have my sled sitting at the dealership waiting in line for the repair....

Although I am out of this one, still riding my '11 with 2500 miles.
it sucked seeing the failure but like you said, there was nothing going to keep me from riding it if there was a way to fix it myself. put almost a thousand miles on the welded driveshaft, told my dealer to look after the guys that couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it themselves. not sure what kind of fix the poo guys are going to come up with, looks like a steel to aluminum mating surface, no welds are going to work there.

Before we go searching for a fix, we need to identify the problem.

I suspect that in order for the drive shaft to break so quickly, it must not have been glued from the factory, therefore an assembly defect.

If so, the simplest solution would be to just take it apart and glue it before it gets spun. It is also likely that polaris could resolve the problem very quickly by getting dealers to glue the driveshaft.

If in fact it was glued from the factory, and it spun anyway, then I think the best route would be to downgrade to the 11/12 driveshaft, as it would take months for polaris to redesign and manufacture a new shaft.

It looks more like the 2011, 2012 driveshaft would be more of an upgrade for polaris owners.
There may be a few cases but, If you got the sled drive it and when it fails then at least put it the 11 or 12 shaft .

A guy on snow and mud did a crazy thing, instead of bitching on a forum for days he called his dealer. which to be fair some dealers dont have a clue.

Apparently the ones that are not glued properly will fail very quickly JUST like this one. The ones that are glued properly are not failing (duh)

Im sure they are reviewing their quality assurance process to find out which ones need recalling, like they do in the automotive world when they recall only models made between this date and this date.

there is a process behind everything, if its only a couple hundred maybe they will just replace them on warranty, if its a couple thousand they will do a mass recall. Only issue with that is the lack of driveshafts out there.

Quit trying to make sense. There is no room for that on this forum.

yeah, and he will get told the same thing I was told when fixing the problems with my all new shiny end all be all mountain snowmobile. "it's the internet, you don't really believe that sh!t, do you?"

Again I side with TEEROY (you're a smart dude) I absolutely love my dealer (both kinds, ahem :face-icon-small-coo) but I have mentioned things I have read and they said the same thing, don't believe everything you read on the intertubes, and called me a keyboard-rider to boot, still love them though (HPAK!)

But the internet/forums brings the truth sometimes, and most often brings news before other conventional outlets do, can or are willing to.

Like the truth about Benghazi, while other media outlets are still in some sort of weird blackout over the whole debacle.

This is not a isolated issue, I spoke to my dealer today about this failure, he said that ,he had a coustmer bring his sled in on sat with the same problem with only 7 miles on it, so that's 2 failures and it's not even full out winter yet

So this is two failures at the same dealer? Seems that there are other 2013 Pros out on the snow with no issues. Hopefully this is just a couple that didn't get assembled properly.

No, one in Dawson creek, and one in beaver lodge. The beaverlodge one I didn't see, I called them to check on something and in conversation they mentioned to me that one came in on sat with 7 miles on it with a broken shaft

Well, considering there is very little or no rideable snow in The United States i do not think many have had their sleds out yet other than a few peeps for a quick break in ride on a few inches of snow. Not sure about B.C. or Alaska, may be rideable snow there. Once the snow hits we will quickly know the extent of this issue.

Will a bunch of you please go ride your new sleds on the grass and hold them wide open to see if they break. That way we will know right away if we have a problem. we need more than 2 that break so we can call in the troops.

um yea ya lost me on the pulling the sled out of the truck deal :rant:

yanked mine out of a 9" lifed chevy 3 times now came nowhere near to the point where it would bash the plastic and smash into the belt drive... :sorry:
It was a funny , meaning when it gets pulled out of the back of a pickup and hits the ground the driveshaft will break and the whole sled will implode .

I would just do what you did and weld the ****er no chancing it.

It just seams like with all the snow in the forecast that we will know soon if their is going to be many that fail. Here's to keeping my fingers crossed and having a little faith that I made the right choice in sleds.

we will know by sunday if this is going to be an epidemic....can hardly wait.
