broken drive shaft

Clayton...

If you put a turd next to a turd next to a turd...aren't they are still turds?????

Just because one might be 4" in length, another 5" in length, and yet another 9" in length(that guy eats alot of protein)...doesn't make one more or less a turd than the others:face-icon-small-hap

Get my drift here...

Yes, but can you polish that turd, that's what I want to know.

Here's a picture of a drive shaft.

Discuss.
That one shouldn't have any problems because it's made by the same company that's been making the xps' before . If your lucky enough to get it replaced it'll say made in canada in blue ink .

Here is the picture that snobyrd provided.

Well, now that we have a pic....can you say recall?? looks like only about 1/2 inch of the drive end extends into the tube and it just spun. wonderful engineering polaris....i think they are getting carried away with the gluing of parts on this sled. Should a driveshaft really be glued together?

That only looks like 1/4 inch of overlap.

If that is how they are designed, no wonder they broke.

Anyone have a pic of a stock 2013 for comparison?

Wow, So many are focusing on something that isnt even an issue. There isnt even any snow and Polaris has F**ked up again. IMO is ride something else if these sleds are junk. This forum is starting to suck to here so much negative input. I just think we are all board and dont have anything to do other than bitch about something that isnt an issue. There is going to be failure for sure. Thats with everything mechanical. Its just the way it is.

Well, clearly this guy was riding in the snow. There is snow on the suspension. Really....a driveshaft should take a lot of torque and punishment and this thing looks like it twisted like play-dough. yes it is early, just saying that its not a good sign. I am hoping its an isolated issue.

This is not a isolated issue, I spoke to my dealer today about this failure, he said that ,he had a coustmer bring his sled in on sat with the same problem with only 7 miles on it, so that's 2 failures and it's not even full out winter yet

I totaly agree with you. It should hold up better, howerver there is over 100 responses on this topic of bashing with only one broken part. Trust me Im not saying that Polaris builds a perfect sled. I had an 08 Dragon with major motor issues. My 2012 pro was killer and hoping my 2013 is as good. I guess im thinking positive on this. I just think that there is not much positive input on this forum anymore. Just my thoughts.

In regards to the driveshaft failure, I am a dealer for Polaris and I spoke to Polaris Industries directly this morning and want to clear the air on a few things regarding some of this verbal diarrhea, because some of your breathe is smelling really bad. First of all there will be no service bulletins available at this time. Have they seen a couple fail, sure, is it an epidemic, NO! Failure is caused by inadequate bonding agent applied at time of assembly. Polaris is addressing the issue right now and taking care of there customers. We are still rocking the number 1 mountain sled! I am sorry about all the haters who don't have belt drive, at least we have a company that is trying to think outside the box and deliver performance to units to the demands of the customer. Polaris saw the line, others thought impossible :face-icon-small-win.

This is the reply from the dealer that was dealing with the photographed shaft.
Well the good thing is, if pol watches these forums like they say they do, I think they got our message LOUD AND CLEAR, and maybe it'll end up being a recall

You are so right Troy!! The sky is falling.............

It sucks to think whether it's a Polaris, Ski Doo, Arctic Cat, etc. that one would spend $11,000+ on something to find out the manufacturer is cutting a few corners to save weight, money, whatever. I would rather have a few more pounds added along with some more $ to the price tag knowing that it was made with a couple solid pieces that may hold up a bit better. I am no mechanic or engineer and have no college degree. But I think I have common sense and that tells me any type of adhesive involved in torque and high RPM will not hold up.

I broke 4 drivers on my 900 cat, it happens. There was a f up on the assembly and some sh!t didn't get glued right, big deal. It will get fixed and you'll have a great sled.

We run equipment that costs 40 times what these sleds do and it breaks when its brand new as well, which costs us big money in down time, and we bitch less then this forum.
