broken drive shaft

I'm sure polaris is taking a very serious look into this. The chances of someone getting seriously hurt when one of these lets go is too great to ignore. The one thing that is for sure now is that they do have a problem. How big or small of a problem is yet to be seen.

How many have actually broke?, and if they are breaking with little miles there will be a higher rate of failures with fatigue..Major liability if one breaks on a climb and injury's occur.

Really, are you sure? What's the difference between a Driveshaft, Belt or Chain Case failing? All will stop you dead in your tracks... I knew of alot of doo belts a few years ago & Proclimb belts & a few chains getting used up last year and Doo and Cat took there sweet time coming up with a fix. Heck us Cat guys don't know if we have a fix yet, just hope...

My point is, you won't get anywhere if you bury your head in the snow. Make some friggin noise. That is what gets them to look into this stuff.

Now I agree the internet blows things out of proportion sometimes... Well most times But I think this is a valid issue, that needs to be addressed.

Im still pissed at what Im stuck riding. I expected alot more for 12,500 & Pro owners should expect more for there hard earned dollars.

The only silver lining here for me is I should be able to whoop these 13' pro's because I can change a belt alot faster than they can change a driveshaft:yo:

No I'm not sure but it seems to me that a driveshaft breaking clean off is more dangerous than blowing a belt or a chain breaking. I guess that keeps me thinking there will be some urgency in getting this taken care of.

Its pretty sad when I buy a brand new sled and feel like I have to keep my M7 with 6000 miles on it to be confident I'll be able to ride all winter with out down time.

A broken driver really isnt any different then a blown belt or a broken chain when it happens. At least not on any of the ones ive broke. It is however a lot harder to get off the mountain.

I'm curious why there are so many non-Polaris people on this thread adding there 2-cents?

Don't get me wrong... I'm glad that there is participation in a good discussion.

Gloating with your fellow sledders that you would normally spend having a blast with in the snow this season, even if you just met them for the first time at the parking lot, just does not make sense to me.

Whatever washes out with these new sleds, ALL BRANDS, I hope that everyone has a great season and gets ride some deep stuff this year.

Rock on!!

.

It just seems strange that the prototypes did fine during the testing period. is it possible that polaris found a cheaper/different glue to make the bond? does anyone know the glue they use? regardless, I'm still getting a 13 but I might be waiting awhile to see what develops.....

I've broken my share of driveshaft on my older sled . You sure make alot of friends, they all want to help out and pullout the sled out. At least when your driveshaft breaks their isn't oil everywhere to clean up with the belt drive.
Sucks when your 65 miles out. You still have no brakes when you remove the track and just ride on the sliders. You just become a better rider.
On a new sled stuff shouldn't be breaking especially when they say these sleds were tested. Obviously quality control never caught these driveshasfts.
If I had a nice 2013 Pro I'dd be getting myself a 2012 driveshaft and driving the bag off it. For now I'll keep my 11 till all these bugs are worked out.

Might want to take there 2-cents for what it is worth. And might want to check with the current administration and see what 2-cents is worth:face-icon-small-dis

Waiting on some snow to get out the new PRO and the old PRO :face-icon-small-coo

not strange at all....of course the prototypes will not break. They can't take a chance that a prototype will break when they are doing demo's. I will bet money that the prototypes had the 2012 steel driveshaft in them. Then they switched to the whiz bang aluminum 3 piece glued driveshaft for the public to test out on all production units. This pisses me off, i hope someone does not get hurt.

Since Montana got some new snow, it will probably be a couple of days before those with broken driveshafts, will be able to hike back to their trailers. Then add a couple more days before they can round up another sled and towbuddie, to drag it back in. Consequently, we could be in for a bit of a wait, before they calm down enough to post about their "polaris experience". That is assuming of course, that they haven't lost the tips of their typing fingers from frostbite.

Just like reading about the Cat guys blowing belts last season.

yes. everyone's interested in the competition sleds. i make fun of my buddies that dont ride cat, they make fun of me. thats how it is. last year i had to pull a rmk pro in limp mode out of the hills in cooke. did we make fun of him that weekend and for the rest of the season....YOU DAMN RIGHT. but i wouldnt wish it upon him to break down again. i dont think anyone here is wishing that these problems are consistent.....even us cat guys. nobody wants to see a failure.

there are just a few opinions and comments that are pumped full of testosterone being thrown around in here. if you are too big of a pansy azz to take it, i understand.....you do ride a polaris. har har :bounce:

now its your turn to make fun of my diamond drive..........and life moves on

No worries from me, just having some fun with you. I also agree that there are a bunch crying about the sky falling.

well i know some folks were out on Sunday with the new snow we got in CO and I have not heard of any more driveshafts breaking? I am taking that as a good sign.

Matt Entz and the BD crew were out with Erik Woog on their 2013's in CO this last weekend... no issues that I've heard of ... those were all turbo sleds.
