Black smoke.........

The guys with desiels that smoke a lot, the only reason they are smoking that much is because they took out there catalitic converter, which is illegal, but cops don't really do anything about it.

That is 100% WRONG. The cat does not change black smoke ONE bit. I can back that up, because my cat fell out a while ago :confused: It is taken off for EGT purposes. It is for emissions but NOT black smoke.

steveo10 don't tell me your another one of those NADP fanboys? God I hate NADP. I shake my head anytime I see a truck with NADP on it. They don't know their head from their a$$.

Yea there are a lot of a$$holes out there who black out intercetions etc, I got it from a cummins 12v a while ago. But anyone who thinks a fast, running right truck doesn't black smoke doesn't have a clue. It will black smoke until the turbo cleans it up, which on a standard is every shift, and autos will still smoke some to. Also, anyone who knows what they are doing can go with almost no smoke to a smoke show in a matter of minutes, it takes nothing. It is NOTHING to do with running right with most trucks. Black smoke is unburnt fuel, but you need some black smoke to make power.

And for the guy who said his truck is running 7's and made a new world record? Which planet is that one? Because that ain't earth, NO trucks are running 7's buddy! You obviously have NO idea what it takes to run 7's.
 
when im at the track or watching pulls and see NADP trucks blowing more smoke than 100 treehuggers could handle... winning all the races/pulls that means they are slow and totally inefficient? :)

NADP doesn't seem like too bad of a builder but I'm not too impressed with their twin turbo 6.0 and how it did at the Diesel power challenge.


Like a bunch of people have said you should have a slight haze coming out of the exhaust at full throttle.

NADP is a joke. I don't claim to know everything about diesels, but last edmonton snow show I embarressed one of the guys there about the new cummins 6.7 diesel. He knew NOTHING, and just claimed to know EVERYTHING. There is a reason any real modders stear far and clear from NADP. NADP just gets the rig guys who have money to burn on their trucks and don't have any clue what is good, and just listen to NADP.

My buddy has a 08 PSD he just dropped $4,000 at NADP and now his truck does nothing but black smoke and isn't fast at all, he got exhaust, intake, and a programmer. My 04 cummins with a whole $400 in performance upgrades still lays a licking on it with a slipping clutch :D

WTF? This site gets worse everyday. This crappy economy must have everyone's panties in a bunch. Who gives a sh!t, just do what you like to do.

I found the same thing. I asked about the Smarty programmer for my 04' CTD at the snowshow. "You don't want that, it causes too much injection rattle and its a race only programmer". Uh what? LMAO! Injection rattle? Its called timing buddy. Race only programmer? Funny, there seems to be plenty of guys using the programmer with great success on their daily drivers.

Not to mention their prices on parts are insane compared to other vendors...
 
i know that if i could get most of these fruits around here to line up with my chev 8.1 gasser they'd have a rude awakening.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or a smartass, but I honestly would like to see your gasser run a diesel. Don't give me wrong...I am a huge chevy fan, have owned only chevy, 5 of them in fact, 3 gassers and 2 duramax's, but I'd like to see that. What do you have done to it? You have any videos runnin it? Mad props to you if you are beating diesels with a 8.1!

Current Duramax owner here and former 8.1 owner. When I had the 8.1, I ran it against my buddy's '03 Dmax. He pulled me off the line real bad and I reeled him in and passed him around 80 to 85mph. Not sure on the distance that happened at, we were running on the highway. He had a Hypertech programmer on level 3. My 8.1 had a programmer and exhaust.

Yep, did he feed you all the BS on the 6.7 they had there? There prices aren't to bad for some things actually. When I called them out on Cumminsforum he said he'd make me a good deal on parts, it was a good deal but my buddy got me even better price from his work :D I said I was running a bullydog and he's like "it screws up your computer" I think they were promoting edge products last year? I have Edge now, but it's no different then bullydog. Smarty is a great programmer, I am just to cheap to buy one.
 
no cyle im no NADP fan... tell you the truth i havent ever took a step in their shop in etown. i get all my modz off of the internet...year after year they doo fairly well in our local tractor pulls.

The 6.4's Best tuning is Spartan or RCD (on the SCT platform).

i'm not talkin runnin the 8.1 against highly modded diesels, i know that you can get big power pretty easily out of the diesels and they would make my 8.1 look silly if they had any decent work done. but like i said around here its mostly little punks with a small chip or a slightly turned up 12v and i know that the 8.1 could show alot of them a thing or two from a dead stop( well, atleast before i put the lift and 35"s on it). i know alot of diesel boys have the mentality that its impossible for a gasser to beat a diesel in any way shape or form, but the 8.1 is very competative with them when your talkin stock to stock or even slightly modded. i even read in a Diesel magazine a comparison between an '05 8.1 to an '05 dmax and stock for stock the 8.1 beat out the dmax in basically every catagory except fuel economy, but once they started throwin programs at them then the dmax started comin out on top. yes, i've beat my share of diesels but i have also been beat by some that actually had decent running trucks.
 
Dukie, you sell your truck?

Sold it in July and bought a Ford GT. It's a gasser, doesn't smoke very much, and will destroy any diesel out there lol. Seriously, it's a lot of fun if you like having your pic taken a dozen times every time you take it out of the garage. How's the Chebie runnin?
 
There are fixes to the smoke problem.. There are several companies that are developing systems that run a mix of diesel and oxyhydrogen or natural gas. These not only increase fuel mileage but of our most recent tests we are getting near the 600 hp number at the rear wheels on an 08 dmax with absolutely no mods except the hydrogen system.. Yep you heard right, stock turbo, stock exhaust, stock intake. The only problem we have is tranny. and absolutly no smoke.. you can hardly even smell smoke.. and the turbo boosts quite quickly due to the fact that the water residue expands quickly.. and egts never reach above 1100. Were not far from releasing the technology to the public.. and the best part is... 31 mpg on the dmax.. not bad... and were making improvement almost weekly..

Any more info on this? When's it gonna be released? Will they make it for the older DMAX'S too? Biggest question, How much$$$?
