Black smoke.........

can someone explain to me "IF YOUR BLOWING SMOKE YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MAKING POWER"

why does every high HP truck on the dyno DUMP smoke the make there best #s?

im not saying right or wrong just dont understand

It's a myth started from watching the tractor pullers. Most people think "they make big power by smoking so thats what I will do to make big power too."

It used to be the only way to do it with the old school engines but with the new electronic engines it's just not needed and it is actually a waste of fuel.I have run ALOT of trucks on chassis dynos(from pickups to big rigs) and as you lean them out the smoke goes away they make more power.

People also think you have to pour the fuel to them to keep the egt's low when making big power.Thats also not true anymore with the new electronic systems.

They dump smoke on the dyno because the dyno operator stuffs the go pedal off boost and it takes a bit of time to get the charger lit. Once the charger comes up most/all the fuel is burnt and the exhaust cleans up. It doesn't clean up when you don't match the charger size to the amount of fuel being provided and thus all the fuel is not burned.

Hydrogen and natural gas

There are fixes to the smoke problem.. There are several companies that are developing systems that run a mix of diesel and oxyhydrogen or natural gas. These not only increase fuel mileage but of our most recent tests we are getting near the 600 hp number at the rear wheels on an 08 dmax with absolutely no mods except the hydrogen system.. Yep you heard right, stock turbo, stock exhaust, stock intake. The only problem we have is tranny. and absolutly no smoke.. you can hardly even smell smoke.. and the turbo boosts quite quickly due to the fact that the water residue expands quickly.. and egts never reach above 1100. Were not far from releasing the technology to the public.. and the best part is... 31 mpg on the dmax.. not bad... and were making improvement almost weekly..

this has to be the dumbest thread ever.So much misinformation in one thread.

why does a full mechanical have to blow smoke and a full electronic motor does not to make power?lean out a diesel and you loose power....it a no brainer. diesels do not require the engine to be stoich like a gasoline engine.if you add more fuel, you need to match the turbo to clean it up.

Well, just like sleds we all seem to agree to disagree!!!:D

All in all a smoking truck is bad for our sport and should be avoided in my opinion. But others have thier opinion and they are entitled to that.;)

Good day to all.:beer;

lol, its morons driving like this that give diesels a bad rap

Im just giving you a bad time duke, that thing looks fast on the speedometer view video. nice work
LMAO that's nothing compared to the smoke some of these billies think is cool to blow on main street. It runs pretty much smoke free if you know how to bring it on. Come on down smoke billies let's go. My truck runs faster than you can dream of with little to no smoke even with a soft 2.1 60'.

IMO theres nothing wrong with having a truck that smokes, its just where and when to make it smoke. Duke1n I give huge credit for making a truck run like that with out smokin'... very impressive and I'll be willing to bet your EGT #s are low. But the wagon me and several other people are more than likely on is performance on a budget and ease of install. Not a lot of people are willing to cough up the dough on a aftermarket turbo much less take the time to build a file for it.

I agree, didnt have a big budget for a tranny and turbo and all that bs on my 98 cummins auto, just wanted to make it feel like the parking break was stuck on (anyone who's drove a stock dodge knows what im talking about), so I bought a 120 horse edge comp, didnt smoke much, just a puff until the turbo spooled up.

Just keep adding nitrous till the smoke is gone.:D

I guess these guys don't know how to "bring it on".. being some of the fastest trucks out there.
Drever
total performance

Oh I've never heard of those guys lmao. There are a lot of trucks on that end of the scale that smoke like a mofo... Jimmy Dale Smith, Garmon, and Dennis Perry's truck to name a few. There's also fast trucks like McSwain's that run in the 9s and are pretty much smoke free. Lovem or hatem unkie Gale's truck is the fastest thing out there and doesn't smoke a bit. Those are also track trucks only and we're talking about smoking on the street and smoking out people just to be a dik in particular. So what have you done?

I'll pretend to be like you and never blow a puff of black smoke out my tail pipe. I don't want you to go tell on me ;)

LOL I could give a rats arse about blowing smoke until some dillweed takes his daddy's truck and throws on a "tune" so he can go down and blow smoke on little old ladies. Then you're just being a dikhead and giving the hobby a black eye as well as ammo to the greenies that don't want us driving anything internal combustion period.
