smoke is not horsepower.... its potential horsepower being blown out the exhaust....
Anything more than a fair haze of smoke is just a waste of fuel and really only shows the poor state of tune your truck is in. Fuel makes power, but only if you actually have the air to burn it. If you cant clean it up with a pair of sequentials or with nitrous/water/met injection (like you would see on the engines that make REAL power), thats a different story, but at that point you wouldnt care if the pyro is buried past 1800* as long as the old beater holds together for the rest of the pull!
In the real world though, to people that actually know what they are talking about, it really shows how stupid you are when you say things like "my truck makes all kinds of power because it smokes!"
If its smoking at idle you have some serious issues (whether its seriously leaky injectors or hugely inaccurate spray pattern), that much residual fuel to smoke at idle would cause cylinder wash within no time and you would be dead in the driveway...
No, im not against smoking out the odd tailgater, ive been known to do it myself. But on the same respect, i dont go around smoking out the whole town and everyone in it just because i can dump in all kinds of fuel before the turbo lights...

I started Dr.performance and predator 12yr's ago.Sold both and now I'm working with hydrogen and diesel.I never liked smoke and thought only the the junk companies made truck's smoke.If you ever seen my truck ,we set 5 world records It only smoked at launch,then was clean as a gas engine.Thats 1400hp that ran 7.62 at 180 mph.So more smoke means,bigger joke.Doc

Wow, your truck smokes at an idle. I would say there are some major problems with your truck. Thats nothing to brag about, everyone that sees your truck is saying to themselfs " that truck isnt running right, looks like it is on its last leg" not "look at that horsepower". Might want to look into getting some who knows what going on to look at it.

it gets bad around here every friday and saturday night. i don't know why but around here its mostly the cummins drivers. i think its cuz thats the most affordable diesel for the little backwards hat wearin fruits fresh out of high school. don't get me wrong i got nothin against the cummins itself its just the people who drive them around here give them a bad rap. these little fruits think throwin on a simple chip or crankin the pump up to where they smoke a bit makes them have the fastest truck in town, hell they'll flat out tell you they can't be beat. i know that if i could get most of these fruits around here to line up with my chev 8.1 gasser they'd have a rude awakening.
now before people get all sensitive thinkin i'm bashin the cummins like said before i'm not, just 90% of the people around here that drive them. Dukes truck looks like it hauls *** and it would be awesome if you lived near by and could come show some fruits how a diesel is supposed to run.
Wouldnt doubt it though, the pre 98.5 cummins's are all mechanical pumped (VE & P-7100). with no money and some slight knowledge easily gained from one of the thousands of diesel websites they can be made into slow, black smoke belching pieces of crap without putting a dime into it!
i run a far bit of fuel and the gt3782r cleans up the smoke, but untill spooled it's smoking in the bottom of every gear. and yes once in a while i get a laugh out of it.

Actually wehn a diesel puts out the balc smoke it's making the most power and also burning all fuel where as most of the other times it dont burn all the fuel.
when im at the track or watching pulls and see NADP trucks blowing more smoke than 100 treehuggers could handle... winning all the races/pulls that means they are slow and totally inefficient?

Lately it's been smoking too much... can't figure out why (fuel filter maybe me thinks). As I type this some douche is zipping up and down the road in a fart canned ricer
