Define riding. You mean riding around on a groomed trail, like some Yellowstone Tour group or something? Or do you mean, allowed to ride off trail in a major precentage of our public lands? What percentage?

I think everyone already knows the answer. Funny thing, people used to tell me the same thing back east. Now, there is not a single National Forest you are "allowed" to ride in. And, the first thing people discovered is that riding on private property carried a lower fine, and a lot lower chance of getting caught.

I think the end will come, but it depends upon who we elect, and how active we get.

I paid over $11,000 in federal income tax, if you must know. And around $3,000 property tax and $5,000 or so in state income tax. Your point?

And yes our city council has problems. The roundabouts in Shilo are ridiculous. But there has been several business come in that are doing nothing but bringing jobs. That is why our economy is still doing fine. Try getting a seat at Outback on a Friday night. Or going to Costco on the weekend, or Wal-Mart at any time. Another reason, don't forget all the road construction going on. Between the Cabella's buildout, the airport road project, the hospital expansion, and the refinery expansions, that is a ton of jobs (relative to the size of the town).

So, what does my tax bill and Billings city council have to do with this thread?

Sure is. We had a budget surplus of over a hundred million, four years later, we have a projected deficit of 3.2 billion!!! Brian Baird wants to turn Gifford Pinchot forest into National Park. Gregoire wants to reinstate all the Clinton Roadless Initiative closures that were reversed by President Bush. My property value went up by 68k this year- I wonder if Obama will edit the National Anthem and take out the phrase " the land of the free"

Any time you want a serious debate on land issues I'm game... BTW, the National forests are under fire too. We just lost a huge area in the NATIONAL FOREST called Wild Sky, a popular area to several recreational groups. We fought it for years and when the Dems won control of the house...guess what? We lost the fight. It's going to be a re-occuring theme on here Shirly, get used to it.

What about state supreme courts? More liberal supreme court justices equals less riding areas. I live in Minnesota and only ride in Montana. Area I have ridden in since 2000 is now restricted by left wings groups that found a left wing judge to agree with them and now you can't ride there after March 15. There goes that trip. One thing to remember in Washington, is they actually reappraise every so many years for property tax, and you property most likely came close to doubling, which the governor does not control. Fuel taxes, not sure on that. Sales tax at 9%, that is a steal. Montana, income tax is 7% of taxable income. Remember, Washington is one of only a couple states that does not have an income tax. I think 8 or so states total only have one or the other.

But I really don't like Gregoire anyways, she let my Sonics go to that piece of sh*thole OKC.

First, I guess I was ignorant on the riding area issues. Sounds like Montana, Idaho and Washington are having issues. I ride in Colorado and there are tons of places to ride. There is only one issue I am aware of here and I believe it is a proposed "Wilderness" area designation.

To answer your question on Obama. I like a combo of Obama policies and McCain policies. I do not like either Health Care proposed policies. We should keep Health Care private. I like Obama's tax plan. If the middle class gets a tax break, i know where I spend my extra money. Locally. And 80% of the time to small, local businesses. Boosts local economy. Opponents of this plan say (for one) that if the big corporation do not get that tax break, jobs are lost. I think you could argue either way...

I liked John McCain in 2004 and in 2000. He's simply getting too old. And he picked an absolute moron for a VP. Have you seen the countless clips of him screwing up speeches? How many times did he screw up on the 3rd debate. He does not sound coherent. His cancer worries me. If he had picked a more qualified running mate, I may have been voting for him. (And I don't like Biden either, but he is more qualified to be a VP than Palin)

Finally, there is more at stake this election than snowmobiling. If we don't change and fix Washington and our Government soon, we won't be needing to worry a whole lot about snowmobiling. And I think Obama has the best chance at it.
