Bigger engine coming THIS year?

Thought they were doing away with the thousands pronouns and going back to just m600, ect. That article seems off. Either way, was wondering if their big news is just going to be continued use of yamaha motors for the fastest production snowmobile title. hope not for all you big bore mountain guys

I'd take the 600 over a 4-stroke unless Cat has figured out some magic on that, but like @MTsled3 said, it looks like somebody dressing up pure speculation to get clicks. I could see them offering a 4-stroke, but not something revolutionary enough to compete in the mountain segment, and so I don't see any way "something bigger" isn't 2-stroke. I personally hope they buck the trend of calling smaller motors something bigger, so if the full 900 doesn't work out, why not find something catchy with the smaller number? M88 sounds cool, or even, say, 86R or something like that.

Of course, Polaris gave them a lot of leeway, calling an 866 a "900" (and paid the price, I'd say!). I do hope they keep the naming simple; some of the alphabet soup that's going on is getting crazy. Ultimately, I say nobody's going to care if it's not a "900" as long it beats the current 850s and doesn't go boom much, but you're never going to convince the marketing guys. As far as I'm concerned, Cat should fire those guys and use the money to build a better sled, but then I'm not a Facebook/Tiktok/Youtube junkie...

A web search turned up a linkedin profile of someone working for Arctic Cat in marketing, and it seems they've still got something amounting to a marketing department. Incidentally, digging around Textron's main page leaves me quite unimpressed. Quit worrying about saving the planet with dead-end technologies and going for gold in the diversity olympics and focus on building stuff people will want to buy. Not that they're the only ones: if you don't already know what a certain company makes, you'll have to read through a dozen pages on sustainability, equitablity, and ever other buzzword in the woktionary before they'll tell you. /end rant

I got an email for a survey from Arctic cat and most of the questions seemed so irrelevant to the powersports that Cat is involved in. A lot were about renting boats and motorcycles for some reason. Seemed pretty irrelevant to me unless they plan to launch boats and rental programs.

Do you remember that Cat's "900" from 2003-2006 was also only an 862?

Nobody complained about that.

Anyone else feeling the "new engine" fatigue? Been hearing about it for so long at this point it's going to be tough for me to get excited about any new powerplant unless it is something leaps and bounds better than a Polaris 900, Doo 850, and even boost. Unless there is some characteristic about it that is really different it's just playing catch up.

One word will get you excited again: supercharged.

*raises hand*. So fatigued over hearing this or that and not knowing anything definitive, that this die hard Cat guy went and bought a 9R. My last Polaris was 1996.

Cat is a little behind in the displacement war. However, cc to cc, cat performance is equal or better.....

The new N/A engine, i feel, is ahead of the competition.

Just my .02....

Assuming you are talking about Cat's current 800 offering, compared to the other's 850s, I completely agree. Although, I think it's a combination of engine and the PC track. I have first hand experience in this.

The 800 C-TEC2 Cat motor is arguably the best, most bullet proof engine currently available. I don't own a Cat, but that'll likely change next year, since the new chassis now looks to be a true competitor.
