Best small town in Colorado

I have only stayed in Walden to snowmobile, but have skied in Steamboat. I prefer Walden. I know what it's like to make a living in the country, I'm a farmer in MN from a town of 700."

Yeah I know EXACTLY how it goes farming in rural MN... Government welfare. They pay you to ride instead of work LOL.

" "Dave" came off as a pretentious dick in his post, and I responded. You do realize that guys like me are the ones that keep Walden and other small remote mountain towns alive? It's completely populated with sledders from the midwest all winter. Keep preaching though, it's entertaining.

Guys like you do NOT keep small Colorado towns alive, keep dreaming. You don't have clue how it works out here in the wild wooley west son...

The collected $70 million in pot taxes last year, probably be well over $100 million this year.

I am really not sure what they have been spending it on though...

The bulk of the pot money goes into the general fund, which means it mostly get wasted...

15% excise taxes on wholesaler to retailer transactions goes directly to school improvements/construction. That was $17 million in 2014, the numbers I found in a quick search.

They sell the heck out of around here in the Ridgway/Telluride area...
That explains a lot :).....No just don't see to much of it here or meeker/rifle/GJ area I suppose....telluride area counts as the eastern slop

DPG... did your buddy get water rights with his land purchase? Overlooking that little thing has dashed many building plans in this state.

Irrigation water rights and the right to drill a domestic well are two very different things. It shouldn't be a problem to get a domestic well permit. Actually getting good water from a drilled well in the Rockies is hit and miss but always expensive. Do-able though in 99.9% of cases. Most people end up hauling water and maintaining a cistern because the up front cost is way lower and water quality is sometimes better.

Irrigation water rights are the contentious ones in Colorado. Having Agricultural status and irrigation water improves the parcels value substantially in most cases. This gives you LOTS of rights to kind of do what you want, and pay less in taxes. Water gives you the ability to better maintain the big garden you just bought. "Irrigation" ponds can become beautiful recreational settings.

Not having water rights is not the end of the world for recreational land owners but they sure do improve the property. This is just an irrigation pond. Stocked with trout but a watering pond by definition. Makes this ranch one of a kind.

Goverment welfare...sure. Unfortunately we pay more in property taxes per year than 99% of people make in a year, but whatever bull**** propaganda you want to believe. Idiot.

So tell me what keeps a Town like Walden alive, when you're there in the winter, nearly every single vehicle is a truck with a trailer from the midwest.
