All loaded up and ready to go Thur morning. Steelmans link is not too encouraging!

Guess we head west and see what happens

Would anyone care to offer some experience with lodging in the area? Seems like Albany Lodge has a good reputation, does anyone on the forum represent them? Looking for a full service place that you can ride out of, with a restaurant maybe? Avy gear rental nearby or not needed? We're not looking for big chutes. I'm about 10 hours out, we would probably drive to Laramie 1st night and get out on the snow early the next morning. Thanks in advance.

mountain meadows cabins and places in centennial (though centennial is not a place you can typically ride out of, at least not recently).

For AVY gear, you can call TNT-motorsports in Laramie and they may be able to help you out with locations, I don't believe the rent. I always recommend avy gear, colorado and southern wyoming snow is some of the most unstable in north america.

if you have time to rent

We were planning to stay in Centennial after Christmas. Would prefer Albany Lodge but it is booked. Getting mixed opinions on whether we can ride out of Centennial or have to trailer. Can we do it? How/where would be go? How difficult is it? We are on crossover machines, but we are getting them clutched for altitude.

You have to ride the ditch to Barber Lake Road. That takes you right to the Greenrock parking lot. Might be some thin spots due to wind. I would have a backup plan in case there isn't very much snow in town.

That's about 14 miles round trip of fuel you are going to burn, with no fuel to buy on that side of the mountain I would trailer up.

It's a quick ten minute drive up to green rock lot / highway shoulder parking. Drive up the mountain until you can't drive anymore basically - you won't be the only one up there, trust me. Probably a miserable sled ride up from Centennial. You're going to be better off trailering most likely.

Ridden up barber lake road many times. Not bad, but like said before it burns fuel.
Pros: don't have to fight with all the idiots that don't know how to park, don't have to worry about forgetting something at the lodge when you get to the parking lot, already geared up so you don't need to pack anything
Cons: burns fuel that could be essential on a pow day

Time wise it's honestly about the same, if not faster to ride up. By the time you drive up, park, unload, make sure everything is locked up, and head out its about an hour.

Thanks for the reply's. My friend has a diesel and does not want to start it each morning. Can we make it to Rendezvous on a tank of gas?

Another question: How often do they groom? Is there a schedule? Thanks!

I want to say it's about once a week, but might be more frequent. I've seen the rig head out on a saturday night before.

I would plan on trailering, last year you would have been 3 miles on dirt for most of the season.

find a outlet and plug it in (if you think its necessary) wouldnt even consider riding out of centennial waste a lot of time and fuel getting to get good stuff just my opinion :face-icon-small-coo

Me and 5 others will be rolling in late tonight to Laramie. Booked a cabin at Albany through Tuesday. So pumped. Looks like snow is going to be good. All loaded and ready to go, just waiting on people to get off work. Going to be a loooong day.
