2015/16 Snowy Range snow conditions

Like I said Friday, Snow is super spotty. We rode from the Green Rock lot on Friday and didn't find much for snow. Pockets here and there with decent coverage but for the most part there wasn't much. Saturday headed to the Albany lot across from the lodge. Rode 15-20 miles straight north and found AWESOME snow. 6" of fresh from Friday night on top of I'd say ~30".

It's getting there

about 3" per night from Thursday until yesterday. TRails are good, you can still see some brush here and there.

So are the trails and roads good enough to be breaking in a new machine or still a lot of bare area's. Concerned whether the sled will stay cool enough. Needing to break in a new Summit 174 XM. Know the conditions off trail/road are not good, so not in a hurry to damage it but would like to get it through the break in period.

Sunday the road (130) was completely covered with good snow to keep cool. Carbides hit pavement in a few spots but not bad.

Yeah what raptobob said, there were no more bare spots last weekend. My sled got a little hot ridding around the trails, but that's because I didn't have scratchers (because the bare pavement from the previous weekend destroyed them).

Rode yesterday from green rock, quite a few bare spots on the road and land mines all over in the meadows. Got in a few good turns in some meadows that I know are safe. The wife's sled kept trying to overheat (07 M8) I had to keep throwing snow on the tunnel and boards to keep it cool. We need another good storm to really cover everything up but the base is setting up nice.

Any new updates? Looking at going out early January, just trying to figure out where I'll be least likely to take out an a-arm.

Snow was fantastic north of the highway! Stay off the lakes though, not even close to being frozen. I would say it's definitely worth a trip. I'll be headed back next weekend.

Med bow snotel says 36".... is that true? If so, are the rocks and logs covered up enough where it is mostly safe to ride off trail or are we going to be riding in an obstacle course? Thanks!

It's pretty good. 12-16" of fresh. One more storm and we are good to go on the north side at least. Still hit a few bumps but nothing serious. On a side note I lost my iPhone 6 near the quealy hut area so if anyone finds it........

Would anyone care to offer some experience with lodging in the area? Seems like Albany Lodge has a good reputation, does anyone on the forum represent them? Looking for a full service place that you can ride out of, with a restaurant maybe? Avy gear rental nearby or not needed? We're not looking for big chutes. I'm about 10 hours out, we would probably drive to Laramie 1st night and get out on the snow early the next morning. Thanks in advance.
