2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

Last weekend... Good snow can be found. Still lots of tip toe riding. Find areas to ride where you know are swampy in the summer and you shouldn't find too many rocks out there.

Went up yesterday. Snow was better than I expected, which isn't saying much. Still having to tip toe. Found some untouched areas with about a foot of fresh on top of a pretty good base. Some areas the base seemed sugary, though. Best fluff was in the trees, obviously. Temps were warm, probably 35 or better. Beautiful day, just wish there was 3 more feet of snow....

All in all, it was worth the drive, but nothing to write home about.

Rode yesterday 1-19. Snow was alright once you got in the trees or creek bottoms. Never got to far from the trail but found some fresh. Took the NO and then the O trail back to the highway, it is rough and some spots are dirt. Pray for snow!

Video taken on my digital camera since my gopro battery was dead.

Anyone going up tomorrow? Let me know...

Good luck.........you're gonna need it!:D

OK, let me edit. Looks like a small chance of snow on Thursday. Next week things seem to be looking up as far as systems coming in.

I took a group up today, lots of tracks and pretty solid everywhere. Worked out well since they were newbies, but I'm not going back up 'till it snows.

We just got back from 3 days of riding the Snowies and found as much untracked snow as we wanted. Just have to get away from the main trails.

Yes, you need to ride with caution in lots of spots, and in 20 years I've never seen the east side from Lake Marie toward the Gap look so void of snow, but we were pleasantly surprised once we veered into the trees (not on the East side of course - we didn't poke around there).

There was lots of sugar snow for sure, but it was still fun. It made the ride more challenging.

I agree. We found it but you had to look hard for it. We had a great time on Thurs. and want to thank Dan again
