2012/13 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

Hey, considering going with a group that is staying at Deer Haven next week. What kind of riding is around there? Do you have to trail ride a long ways to get to the good stuff? Any word on current conditions? Thanks!

It depends on where we head from Deer Haven, but the good spots I frequent, they are anywhere from a 5-15 mile trail ride to get there. There is open meadow power riding, the trails have been pretty well groomed this year, and some good hill climbing to be found. I will be heading up this weekend to ride, I can chime back in with a report on the riding.

It's snowing

It's snowing again...3 inches expected.....we just had a cancellation...5 beds in 3 rooms...1 bed being a king size......anybody want to come stay with us this weekend?

Couple spots there look decent....where abouts did ya stay? heading up thursday...no rooms yet, waiting last minute for snow conditions, worst case scenario stay in sheridan.

in reference to bear lodge, where were the best conditions? sorry, very vague question that everyone wants to know...as long as snow is abundant in the trees, no worries :face-icon-small-coo

Why stay in Sheridan??????

Why stay in Sheridan when there are rooms available on the mtn itself?

When we were out there everywhere had great snow!! We were at granite pass one day, but thats also about 20 miles south of bearlodge. Also (Why stay in Sheridan when there are rooms available on the mtn itself?

Corey had great snow over there also, and he will come and get your stuff from Bearlodge so you dont have to haul it! Give him or Dawnie a call they have a great place out there!!

He will haul your bags and gear on sleigh to the High Country lodge. Its a ride in lodge 15-20 or so miles west of bear. Last time I was out there we ended up riding around HC lodge anyways lot less traffic that far off the plowed road. Then you save that 40 miles each day back and forth from bear.

Snow

4 inches last night...wind blowing a steady 20...temp is 7

Looking for the following;

Commercial washer...dryer and double coffee maker

To hire; Skidsteer or Backhoe probably with tracks just in case it sinks into groomed trail coming to lodge....

Weekend help to wait tables

Weekday help..handyman duties...move snow....

Few pics from Wyoming High Country Lodge 2/23-2/26 first off this is the most hospitality I've ever received from any place. Corey and Dawnie treat you as family and are willing to help you out in anyway they can. We will definetly be back and would recommend this place to anyone. We had excellent snow conditions and had no problem getting stuck.

Weekend was warm and set things up. Blew like crazy sunday night and yesterday and the snotels are showing some fresh. Looks like stormy the rest of the week, decent chance of snow towards the end of it. I'm thinking sunday might be a jumping kind of day with all of those drifts!

We stopped by Wyoming high country twice this week while Dawnie was very nice we sat down and it took 10 min for anyone to talk to us about a food order then we paid $12.00 for a hamburger that was sub par at best, also looked like it had been weeks since floor was swept. They have a long way to go to get it where it needs to be but hope they do as it is nice to have a place on the west side of the hill.

Going out there this weekend and riding the 9th through the 12th. Been making at least one to two trips a year to the big horns in the last four years and have always had a march trip, with the guys I ride with and the kind of riding we do we've always been able to find great snow somewhere. Just se years it has been harder to look for. I'll dot best this weekend to post some updates pictures of what the riding is looking like out there. Sounds like it'll be a full house at all three lodges this weekend.

I have no problem paying $12 for lunch when it takes you over a hour to get to the nearest store and you can't drive your vehicle directly to it in the winter. This place sees a lot of foot traffic in the lodge from what we saw. When you are riding backcountry like a lot of people are you don't take off your snow pants, jackets or boots off at the door. We were wet, covered in snow and probably had pine needles and tree particles on us and this all ends up on the floor and furniture. I'll post again that Corey and Dawnie are doing a excellent job at running this place. I was amazed at how much time and effort they put into this place in a day. They will have no problem filling this place every week. I should probably book our trip next year right now.

Some people would bitch if they were hung with a new rope! There are only 2 people who work there Corey and Dawnie. Yes the burgers are $12.50 but you could always go across the road and get one cheaper. Oh wait! There is no other place to eat for a minimum of 25 miles. They have to haul everything into that place on the back of a tow sled, there is no Sysco truck or Coke truck or beer truck that pulls up to the door once a week and makes deliveries. Did you have to eat off the floor? So what was the big deal about a little snow and water on the floor. You helped bring that in. You had a place to sit down, warm up and dry out a little while you were getting some warm food into your belly. Be glad that they are up there trying their very best to get by. If they weren't there you would have had to go back to Bear Lodge or Lovell for that hamburger. And to be quite frank with you Bear Lodge is not the Ritz either. I like the Elk View over Bear anyday. But was darn glad WHCL is on the other side when we were over there.

Cory and Dawnie are both doing an excellent job. I have seen 4 other managers come and go in that place and none of them came even close to doing the job that Cory and Dawnie are doing. Keep it up you guys you are doing a awesome job. Some people are born complainers don't worry about them

Went up Tuesday to say hello to Cory but he was out helping a guest. Unfortunate, but I wanted to say thanks for all the updates! Nothing better than seeing pictures of fresh snow to get me through the day!
