2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

This will drive him crazy. He'll pay seeing these posts. How was the snow this weekend guys, is the base getting close to safe yet? How much more til we have a rock safe ride? I always thought about 60" base does it, is that about right? How much actual base do we have now?

Alright... Riley, Tog, Or Dan. Give it up How was the snow today?

All gone I am assuming
Dan is it snowing down there now?

I just got back from Sportsman with some new fire starter and replaced the space blanket with a Heatsheet Emergency Bivvy. It's just a touch bigger than the space blanket. It's a touch thicker and reflects up to 90% of body heat.
I also bought the heatsheet blanket survival blanket. You can use it under you or as a tent. size... 60" x 96"..

The things you never want to use but you better have the best if you have to use them..

We headed up this morning and rode out of Albany to check on the cabin and put some miles on. FS roads had about 2.5 feet of snow on them that you could trench to dirt if you tried hard. Meadows and creek bottoms were about the same. The top layer of powder was about a foot or foot and a half, this storm hadn't really done much yet - but it was snowing pretty hard at the cabin when we left. We had a pretty good ride going until my bro-in-laws motor went. We were down in a creek bottom and it took an hour or so to get the sled out. It happened at the worst place that we were going to ride today, but I guess that is how it sometimes works. We got the sled out and back to the trailer - 45 miles total today.

Albany area??

It's been a long time since I was near the Albany area.
On Dec 11th Karst motorsports and I will be down there with our customers for the Polaris factory demo rides.
So is there some decent trees and some bigger hills close by?
If I remember right its about 15-18 miles to get to the peaks..????
The last thing I want to try to do if the weather is sketchy is go over Libby flats!
I want to be able to let our customers get a great feeling on the new pro.

Thanks boys..

We were ~15 miles from Albany where it happened - no base and too much a of a climb to pull a dead sled out of there today, we had to follow the drainage out to the main trail.

IMO you wouldn't want any demo customers climbing the hills in there - the "hills" are old clear cut areas with a lot of trees to pinball off of. By December 11th there should hopefully be a decent base and you can do some tree running. You'll have to head up trail T to the French Creek drainage or across Libby to show them how the pro climbs if they want to hit any good climbing hills.

That's what I figured... We tried to get the Polaris boys to go to the west side to demo the Pro RMK, but that would make to much since now wouldn't it..

Thanks for the info

Nice hole Riley!!!

Ha, Ha, Ha! All of the above...with an emphasis on option B.

We had a bunch ride out of Albany and found decent snow for the trails- French creek trails were over the tunnel in spots. Played a little in a couple of fields but it was still thin for that. Good ride for November

The logging going out of Albany is a mess and people are going to have to be careful there until it is cleaned up - there are a lot of logs and trees on the shoulder that could really create havoc.

The weekend

Snow was good. I saw the ultra guys. He Feel off climbing a hill. Saw another guy with a leg injury hope that he is ok. Had some awesome grub at the Wolf hotel in saratoga. Had horrible experience at The Saratoga inn. When I asked the front desk lady for a room with queen beds so honestly told me that I would take what she was gonna give me or stay somewhere else. I wanted to soak in the spring so a took it. looking back I wish I had just left. Will probable never stay there again but I will call and speak to a manager to see what the deal was and if he/she can do anything to make it right. Also had a burger and few barley pops at THE PLACE. Great service and one heck of a burger. You should try it out. Over and out
