I am with you on never seeing the gap break, just goes to show how unstable things are right now!

Agreed - that makes me leery to anywhere near an open hill when you have slides in places like that. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but that is something that I haven't seen slide before.
Thanks for the pictures and the heads up - I'll stick to the trees, meadows, clearcuts, and creeks on Sunday if we go up.

Ya the Avy is hard to see in the pics. We went over the gap going toward the Widowmaker, Got on top then you couldn't see dropping off the other side because of the blowing snow. Two of the guys dropped off then me. When we dropped off it broke. Not a big one but still gets your mind thinking. I was amazed that it broke there. Would have been one of the last places I would have expected to see one.
TurboT: The snow was still very powdery. It has a good base though, it was just you had to go so far down to find it!

we tried crossing the gap headed away from the widowmaker on wednesday, but it was snowing to hard to see and I got rejected off that cornice on the top, couldnt see it coming... Kinda scary to see them pictures. I will try and get some pictures and video up from our trip- deepest snow I have ever ridden.

Sorry guys if this is a dumb question. Where is the gap? I see it is on the way to widow, but wondering where? I think I have an idea, but I don't know the names or areas too well.
We are going out there on the 3rd. I think we will be sticking to the meadows.

If your looking at Medicine Bow peak on a map ( like google maps) to the north east you will see two lakes, North Gap and South Gap Lake. The ridge or hill in between is the gap! It moreless is a pass between Medicine Bow Peak and Browns Peak.

Yeah, after an all night snow and clear blue morning, we were the first over the gap, and the avy slid on the widowmaker side of the gap. But that was the first of February 2010, not December. Sounds like this is the most early season snow in a while.

Sleds have been gettin stolen here in Laramie too. Then the guys made the mistake of stealing the local Sherriffs trailer during our big snow storm. He just followed the tracks all the way to the garage where they parked them. JAIL TIME!! AAHHHAAAHAHAHA
Great pic, how old is the young lad in the picture? We have a 14 year old coming out with us in January. Also, what year and size motor does the Edge RMK have? The 14 year old coming with us will be on an 02 RMK 700 144.

Sxrlar, it is in fact Cabin number 1 up at Mountain Meadow Cabins taken on our last day there December 21nd. We rode the 17th-21st and had some of the best conditions we've ever experienced for this time of year. One of the guys we ride with took many more pictures and as soon as he gets back from this weeks trip up there he's gonna send them my way.
A 14 yr old will do just fine. I had my 4yr old with me all day today. The edge is my brothers and I think it is an 02 or 03 700 144".
Is it stock? Looking for any hints on what to run for clutching/jetting on the 02 we will be bringing, it is all stock.
