2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

:face-icon-small-hap So is anybody else going up to the range this weekend? I know im gonna be up there for saturday and sunday. And also my friend wants to go down into Jacobie?! thats fine and all but i have no clue were thats at, and im a tad worried about land mines. so can any one tell me what they think about riding in this area? I hope one of you knows were this at cause i dont really want to bust up my new sled dew to lack of knoledge of the area! :face-icon-small-sho And also im glad i finally invested in geting the Premium Membership! :bump2:

I'm not sure on the Area that you are talking about. Seems like everyone calls areas by different names. But in my opinion if it is off trail it is asking for trouble. There are a few areas that are fine to get off at right now, but they are few and far between. It is a little early to be adventuring around.

We did a quick trip up yesterday and put about 50 miles on. The warm temps set up the snow this week, so we now have a decent base in the areas we rode (north and west of Albany). All of our tracks from last weekend were covered - Based on the roads and meadows that we hit I would say there was a good 6-8 inches before last night (see pics below). It looks like it snowed at least another 6-8 inches last night so the guys riding today (Sunday 12/5) should have even better conditions.

We had first tracks once we got past the intersection of T/Q and didn't see a lot of sleds up there yesterday - maybe most people were riding out of Greenrock. The state has started marking the trails

We had the deck completely cleared last weekend so you can see about a foot of snow at our cabin since 11/28, but I think some of that blew in off of the trees...

Here are our pics from yesterday - I can't wait to see pics from the guys riding today!

Then you need to try new areas, are first trip to the Range is early Dec every year. We have alway had plenty of pow and have yet to break anything do to bad snow coverage..
If you ride the hills around rocks then yes you will hit something, if you ride the trees you will hit chest deep powder..

I see you are from Wisconson...what are you doing in the trees? You're not supposed to do that. You're making all the other Flatlanders look bad.

Some of us like the trees back here! :face-icon-small-win Well, this was taken in the U.P. of Michigan, due north of Wi, about a 4 hour drive for us.

Can you guys take your pissing contest to another thread? I thought this was a snow conditions thread???

Dec 5th Snow

Left out of Green Rock on Centenial side. Pretty consistant 12" fell all over the range last night. We found in excess of 16" new over by the Widowmaker area. A complete 180 degree swing from the snow conditions yeasterday. I would say the snow that was there will make for a great base and the new powder that fell is puting that icing on the cake that is much needed. The snow conditions are becoming what we all dream of. Will be in the area for 2 more days. -Mark

It wasn't a pissing match, he was clearly giving a blank statement stating for the entire range, stating that there isn't good snow coverage. He is wrong..
He clearly hasn't spent any time off trail in the tress, if he had he wouldn't have said what he did..

IMO posting GPS coordinates and challenging someone's knowledge of the mountain is pretty bold when you haven't ridden out here yet this year (please correct me if I am wrong and you have ridden out here over the last few weeks). That is an interesting way to contribute and report on the current snow conditions. Whatever floats your boat... :face-icon-small-hap

Snow was great for the first of december this weekend, glad we went out. 100 miles and only a few small rock bumps no damage whatsoever. The new pro is great. Pics to come, camera at home. Thats my report.:face-icon-small-hap

You dork, I live at the base of the Snowies and have over 300 miles up there....this season already. Maybe you could give a more accurate description on your travels out here 2 times a year from the Mid-West...

We went out on Saturday into this pass my friend calls Jacobie, and there was lots of snow! I let my friend lead at first cause i was afraid of land mines, but in the end the only thing that got broken was my windshield! :face-icon-small-dis That only happend because my friend brought her boy friends bro with us "this was his first time riding by the way" and he started to fall over while walking in some deep snow and tryed to catch him self by grabing my wind shield! :face-icon-small-fro O, well at least i get a new wind shield of my choice for free!
I would have taken pictures but i forgot my camera back at my truck! sorry...

Rode saturday we are getting a good base anywhere out of the wind especially in the trees. Warm weather last week set the snow up good for base and about 12-18 inches of new stuff. Can't believe all the people up there this early and 3-1 out of state licence plates good for local business. Glad none of them know where the good snow is though lol we rode all day in untouched and didn't see a soul it was a great day. Snow was like spring snow but still fun can't wait for it to cool down again and get some good december and january powder to go on the base. It has been warm today though but supposed to get more snow and then warm through the week. Here are a few pics from saturday will try and get some better ones next time.

Hey treehunter, good pics. Can't wait to get back down there in a couple weeks. How's your luck been with those 9's? The 9 I had last year is the main reason I bought a new Pro this year, less than 300 miles it blew up 3 times. After the last time I said the hell with it and went and snowchecked a new one. I really liked it when it ran, but really hated it when it didn't. Sort of a love/hate you know. Well good luck with yours, I admire anyone who can keep one(or two) going.
Cheers,
Sonny

Seriously Chads!!!??? I can tell you as a matter of fact that Mean Yamaha puts on over 1000 miles per year in the Snowy Range and has done this for the last 4 years! And I've been with him for almost every trip!!! We live in Laramie and ride the range 2-3 times/week! He is stating that the snow conditions are still low for off-trail riding just like they almost always are in early December for the last 15 years that I've been riding there.
