2010/11 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

K.. who is the best weatherperson in this group. The NWS has Burgess Junc. lit up like a xmas tree this week. Looking to head out towards end of the week... somewhere? Any ideas on the weather patterns if this will come true?

Well today i was up there, and most places we went there was about 5" powder but we found some spots better than that maybe a foot. About 1 or 2 today it started snowing like crazy. Its snowing like crazy here in sheridan, real wet spring snow, so i bet it is still snowing up there too. This storm is suppose to last till tomorrow, then there is a chance all week, but nothing major. So i would say the snow for the rest of the week depends on how much this storm lays down and how the weather is the rest of the week. Might go up in a couple days to see how much they got

We're looking at making a quick trip from ND this weekend, is the snow worth the trip? Will be 6 of us coming. This is my first time to the horns in 8 years, usually head to Tog or West, but because of the length of the trip we're going to try to stay close and stay at Elk view. Anyone feel like giving a few hints of where to find some good snow?

There will be a group of us from beresford sd area staying at bear. Been doing my best snow dance the last couple of days. We are coming in wed night and leaving sunday hope to hit it right!!!!!

Riding

I think a few of us from MN are gonna be coming out. Leave Friday night. We have only been out there once so was wondering if anyone would want to show us around? We ride a 10 M8 07 M1000 04 9001M.

Hey guys,

I will be heading out there this week be there Friday. I will be there for the entire next week. There us two of us going and we know the area pretty well. We might have a few locals with us too. We gave a camper out there at bear. If your group isn't to big we would love to have you ride with us. Like to get to a medium size group 5-7 people. Enough hands to help. Like to boondock find the good snow. Ride a 09 dragon 800 155 with red flame windshield. Have a orange fxr coat.

Ill be the one with the red camo on a d8 riding with some cats and doos. If you guys who are.out there see it stop and introdice. It's always good to meet some fellow riders from the forum.

Here are some pictures from today. The snow was wet and heavy but there is quite a bit of it. It was snowy this morning but cleared out in the afternoon, pretty warm out though. Made for good conditions to do some drops.

Nice pics WYSteph, looks like lots of spring snow up there... Will be up in the morning, hoping to find some good playing! Stop by and say hi if you see me at bear or out stuck (jokes) will be riding my 97 polaris in my pic.

Where you guys go and when? We were up Saturday around High Country and the snow was wet and sticky not very good, might be cause it was over 50 up there.

We experienced the same thing up in the same area. It just got worse as the day went on. I hope your group wasnt the one that broke a piece of that cornice off and caused a small slide up on top :face-icon-small-sho

Anyone have any reports of good snow?

Don't think so we did see some small slides and did cause a little one behind duncum mountain. Snow wasn't excatly stable in places. Hope see more snow out of this next stoms coming through.

pile

so as i was sitting in my trailer at the turn around in front of bear i hear a vehicle crusing past me. instantly i thought, "hes gunna go for it, hes gunna make it to lovell!" just looked out in time to see the breakes come on and pile up into the trail head at probably sixty. followed by trying to back out and getting out so i knew they were fine but wow. i bet he was following gps?

oh and before that when i showed up this frickin guy had an awsome parking job going on!! had to do a four point turn to make the corner. what an idiot, a truck driver would have been sol

was a guy with a polaris 4 wheeler with tracks

People with 1 place trailers=no friends......they probably all got pissed at how he parks and decided he wasnt worth hanging with.

Lol, yeah just a skiff.

I think this was a case of hitting it right. I'm kind of glad we didn't ride on Thursday. The way that beefspots and sleddog were wringing out their gear I was okay with letting it setup a touch. Friday was awesome, broke trail on the way in, never saw another track much less a sled till the way back to the truck. It was my favorite ride of the whole year so far.

We went south of Bear but my Dad had been up on the Lovell side Thursday afternoon. He said there was a lot of snow, all they did was get stuck. The truck in the unplowed parking lot, on the trail, etc.
