2009/2010 Alpine, WY Snow Report/Rockin' M Ranch

We picked up about an inch this morning in the Valley. We are at the beginning of what is suppposed to be the first of five days of snow. We have not had the warm ups that some areas have had. The valleys still have a good 1-2 feet solid base with no bare spots. I rode Strawberry on friday. The coverage is great up there. Still some soft snow in the trees and shady slopes. Tracked up pretty good in the popular areas. Looks like many small slides came down 5-10 days ago. Seems fairly stable now, but I'm sure there are a few booby traps left. I was at Blind Bull on Sunday. Coverage is also good at Blind Bull. There is a solid 40" base. Still some soft snow on North slopes. Tracked up around the warming hut. I was surprised how few tracks were off in the distance. Plenty of good riding to be found off the beaten path up there. I receive many calls weekly about our conditions. Although it isn't our best snow year, we are in good shape compared to many of the riding areas in the West. Definetly a bit thin in the middle and low elevations, but all riding over 8000 is looking good. Hopefully this next week will make all elevations good.

If Utah does not get the snow predicted, even if we do the snow pack is low (around my area) it would take alot. A 3 hour road trip is in order.

Thanks for the update

I measured 6" of wet snow on my rental sleds this morning. I would think that might be 8-12 up high where cooler.

I think I might know where that is.....oh yeah I was there when we took those pics!!

It's Saturday night. The last few days it has been snowing pretty well non-stop. This storm has been very strange. I have heard reports of 1 foot plus in one night at the bench below the Snake river range in Jackson and also saw Afton Yesterday of which it looked like very little had fallen in the last few days, but the snowtel site at spring creek divide above Afton is showing about 1 1/2 feet of new. The Alpine area has probably picked up another 6-8" since the last 6" at the time of my last report a few days ago. I talked to two differen't groups todays who rode Squaw and they are both confident that it received 2 feet over the last three days. Jackson Hole Resort is reporting 23 inches in the last 48 hours with Targhee reporting about half of that. Most of the area snotel sites are showing around 1 1/2 feet of new "on the stick" which could be closer to 2 feet in actual snowfall. In all everyone is saying it's gettin deep. It's time to ride!!

Todays avalanche report is showing "high" at high and mid elevations. Some sites reporting up to four feet of new snow since Tuesday.
