2009/10 Snowy Range snow conditions

not much snow still hittin rocks, three guys i was riding with tore up their sleds pretty good. i am going to stay off the mountian for atleast a couple weeks. shoot they havent even been grooming the trails yet!!!!!

They were grooming from the west side. Both wednesday and friday I made the first marks in on the freshly groomed highway. I don't know for sure about the others though, we were playing to the east/south of lake marie and down by silver lake. Found some way deep snow and it was tough to get out of a few places. There are still some rocks, yes. Broke a trailing arm on a buddy's sled and bent an a-arm on an M8.

We couldnt get out of silver lake it was so deap, had to take a different route.. There were groomed trails all over..

Yeah, the meadows we were in were a b**** to get out of but man they were deep. Great time, minus the whole getting stuck all the time part getting out of it.

Thats what I here.. Cant say much.. Mine made it 10 miles and lost compresion. The nikasil pealed off the cylinders. Never seen that before. Hope that aint common on a 09 D8 with 500 miles... Anybody seen that before..

So hows it looking for the week before christmas guys?

I'm probably heading down there with the parents to ride wednesday .... should be some new snow eh?

Hows the base look right now?

Given the coordinates and the view from the shoulder, looks like you were sneaking above Lake Marie. Did you hear any snowpack noise (whumphing, cracks, etc.)?

A group of us are coming out from Iowa on Jan 10th. We've heard that the roads out of Albany are being used for logging right now and havn't been groomed. Is this true? If so do you guys think they will be groomed by then?

Logging is done, trail is groomed

New to the Snowy's

Great first ride, only a couple of trees located. :D

Heading out there January 1st, never been there and looking on advice to find some good snow to play in. Which areas are good and possibly places to park trailers because it is so short notice and we have no reservations and we are planing on staying in Larmie. Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Snowys Avy Forecast

This is the Colorado Avalanche Forecast for the Front Range 12/23.... and again FOR THE SNOWIES I WOULD STEP EACH LEVEL ONE NOTCH MAKING IT CONSIDERABLE TO HIGH!!!!!!!

Backcountry Avalanche Forecast for Front Range

Issued 12/23/2009 7:01 AM by Simon Trautman

Highlights
Numerous reports of human-triggered avalanches have continued. Common themes are convex start zones on north through northeast to southeast aspects above 11,000 feet. Stay away from similar slopes. Signs of instability like cracks and collapses are common and extensive, and signal that steeper slopes are suspect. New snow and wind will make these clues more prevalent.
