Snowy Range

Just back from our first snowies trip of the year. Found some good snow, if a person was up on Tuesday you had a perfect day. No clouds, piles of snow, found good stuff back side of widow. Decent snow in the trees on the east side, great snow on the west. Found a tree stump a half hour into Monday, fixed it back at the truck. Found a boulder a half hour into Tuesday, no fixy.

Anyone riding tomorrow or Saturday and have room or willing to have a tag along? I ride an 06 M7 and I'd say I'm about an average skill level rider. If so please let me know. :D Thanks

Brent

I'd stick with the horns. I'm sure it's better there. :face-icon-small-hap:beer;

horns for sure....

Taking a trip Jan. 1st and supposed to be going to Bear lodge. Would it be a wise decision to go to the snowies instead looking at the pictures of there and hearing the reports of Bear? Only bad thing is I am not firmiliar with were to go in the snowies what are your opinions?

Rode the snowies the 14th/15th of this month (last Mon/Tue) and found really good snow. If you got off the trail and took off making your way through the trees you could ride untouched powder all day. Seemed to be 24-30 inches of fresh snow with more in some areas. Base was questionable in most areas as alot of stumps/rocks/etc... were just waiting to catch something as is evident with some pics and reports on hear. Overall great riding even though avy conditions were fairly high due to an unstable snowpack. Rode the Big Horns on Thursday and spent the entire time on the trail. I love the terrain and country of the Big Horns having grown up in the area and spent a good time of my life up there hunting, fishing, and riding, but the Dayton Gulch loop was snirt heading out of the lodge one way and the highway was only covered in 1/2 inch of icy crust going the other way..... Like I said I love the area and if the Horns got a dump between now and Jan 1st it is a great place to ride, good accomadations all around the mtn. and friendly people but they need some SNOW!!!! I would keep an eye on snotel and any other information you can gather from personal reports and make a decision based on snow conditions and what terrain you like to ride.

Yes on trail just out of Albany. It was great day. i should of stayed longer, but i was just tuning sled for next week. I'll be up there with family on tues and weds. I would have done some riding but I was by myself. Didnt wanna do something stupid. That snow was too tempting. It was nice.

We just got back last night tues was a blue bird day wish my sled ran right.Wens was ok had jettin trubble dan saved me up on the hill she still run like crap but was better than tues.thurs rented a sled and the snow and wind holly sh**had the time of my life but it was windy as hell Thanks Dan for the jets and we will be back

So what are the thoughts on the Snowies? We are coming from Fort Collins/Denver and debating the following rides on Tuesday:

1. Snowies
2. Rabbit Ears
3. Vail Pass

4. Making an overnighter out of it and driving down to Wolf Creek or Grand Mesa

Vail Pass is the easiest and closest, but probably the worst snow. Will be a trail day which kinda sucks.

We would like the snowies because it is a less traffic drive and my sled is in Laramie right now.

The Snowies definitely have the best snow, closest to you. I hear Wolf and Grand Mesa are getting pretty good but, they are quite the drive.

I'd do the Blowies due to it being early in the season. Save the longer road trip for later when the snow will be spectacular.

Thanks for the advice I will be keeping an eye on the reports and make my decision based on. Thanks for your time.

Rode the snowies on the 19th, what a hoot

Rode the snowies yesterday, was a great day, lots of good snow, Rode with 3 guys from Omaha ( Dave, Matt, Neil) had 4 Arctic Cats and one Loud "Dragon" of Todd's.

Still have to be carefull for hidden land mines, no damage yesterday, just have to ride smart.

Had a ball riding with all you guys, will love to see the video of the "ol man" on the little M8. Ha Ha . Look forward to riding again with the guys from Omaha and the loud dragon again. I told todd on the way home you guys kept commenting on just how "Loud " that polish dragon is. take care , have a Merry Christmas. P.S. filling dragon can with steel wool this morning so it wont be so loud. RickM
