09/10 McCall Area Snow Report

Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
I was down there this last weekend and there was OK snow conditions. Yes there was untracked snow in the trees but you really had to watch out for hidden goodies ( rocks, stumps etc. ). The weather was great and the snow was alot like spring snow, kind of heavy . We road the brundage resevoir and gooselake loop ( and out to fisher creek saddle ) and most of the hills in between. It was good but they deffinatly need 2-3 feet more to be fantastic. I will not go back until they get another good storm. Just as a measure for how much snow they do not have, the groomer has not groomed over duck lake yet because there is not enough snow.

just north of brundage

I was on a short ride Monday morning. Up behind brundage the base is starting to form and there were no tracks were I was riding, but then again I was in the trees. I think I will go out pearl creek next I bet its great out there. Oh and the groomer had been every where we crossed the trail.

any changes?

what is the grooming schedule like this year?.....i have heard that 2 of the 3 groomers have not been running......mechanical issues?......what condition is the warren wagon road in?

THANKS!!!

I believe the grooming program is getting up to speed. At first, they were down by 3 groomers which left 2 for the whole area. Then they had them all running until just the other day when one lost a head gasket but it is being worked on and prepped to get going again. It has been an extremely rough start for the program but after talking to different friends around the area, it looks like they have all or most of all the trails up to par and keeping them in pretty good shape. Time to get out and enjoy them.

McCall Grooming

Grooming is finally starting to come together in this area. The groomer will be posted by 8AM each morning at www.secesh.net if you are using a Blackberry or similar device go to www.secesh.net/Groomer.htm and you will be able to view the report on your phone. The Cougar Mtn Snowmobile Club has a fun run scheduled for Saturday 1/16 there are also SnoCross races in McCall this Saturday and Sunday. Friends of the Payette Avalanche Center has the Beacon Basin set up at Legacy Park in McCall. Go out and practice your locator skills.

Snow conditions are great here up high - had a fantastic ride yesterday!!!! Today would have been epic too but I'm too tired.

Please be very careful out there folks!!!!!!! Snow seems very unstable - saw one small slide right before our eyes and a big fracture across another smaller hill. McCall has way too much fun boondocking to be risking it on the hills anyway!

Snow shape??

We went out of Titus today and the trail had been groomed last night and the parking lot was full. Not even the weekend yet! The snow was great at Sater Meadows, about a foot of frest stuff in the last storm but a little on the heavy side. Just a little, not quite powder but you could still do the power turns in it. In otherwords, great, but the groomer will need to make another run tonight to set the snow. It was breaking up when we came back about 5 pm. The trail base to Warren was set yesterday and is really in good shape. The Smith's Ferry machine is running now, they made a trial run to Tripod last night.

For up to date weather and where the groomers went last night, go to

Also, our Fun Run, on the 6th of February is at West Face lot.

See the web site for details.

something to keep in mind is mccall has about the best snow anywhere. When the snow is great everywhere, McCall is great.

When there is a lean year for snow all over the west, McCall is still great.

Point blank, in lean snow years, McCall has the best snow anywhere.

Doug is right

Doug is sure right, rumor is the Ski Hill is having a very good year, not only because Tamarack is shut down but we have the only snow now in the west. I heard everywhere else is really skimpy. Thanks for the post Doug.

couple of pictures

This were taken while the BAM productions was filming Amber Holt doing her "how to do it, basics". Shows the snow conditions at Sater Meadows. Pretty good shape and I mean the snow too.

Couldn't agree more.
Snow sucks up here in N. Idaho. But was in McCall a week and a half ago and I thought coverage was great. Glad to see the groomers are getting back on line.
Be back down in Feb....maybe sooner if all we get is mashed taters from the sky...
Now if I could only figure out a way to live and work down there...anyone need a grader operator...or paving foreman...or grading super....or.....

heading there mid february for a week, glad to hear the groomers are back up and its snowing. sucks here

Can't Wait

I too can't wait for are annual trip to McCall in Feb. The most diverse terrain, endless powder and best boondocking that I have ever road in.

Grooming seems to be back on track!

Still many untouched pockets of deep soft snow to be had - it is definitely setting up down low and windblown on the really high open stuff but all those untouched valleys and treed areas were great yesterday! We'll be looking really good around here with one big dump - hoping Cali decides they don't need all that snow in the forcast (6' - 10'!!!!!) and sends us some!

Got some snow

Got about 4 inches last night on the mountain, (19th).

added note.

Rode out from Wallace to Secesh summit and had to turn around because of mechanical problems, but it looked like we had at least 6 inches of fresh snow there. Didn't get a picture but should help cover some more stuff. There was a small slide onto the road on the way back to McCall. Avy's could be bad right now.
