Wolf Creek

Sorry if this is a repeat. Can someone from the SOCO area shed some light on how the conditions are in Wolf Creek. Can't find snow anywhere worth riding so I'm considering coming from Rapid City, SD to ride. I've never rode there before so I want to be sure before I drive the 13 hours to get there. I've been planing a trip with my 14 year old son and we're both dying to ride. Planned on the snowies but it stinks there.

Please help!

Thank you

I recieved a report yesterday from some buds down there and it sounds like current conditions are decent with plenty of pockets of untracked snow. There's still hazards but from what I was told they are pretty easy to identify. The forecast does not look too promising, with no snow and highs in the upper 30's. I would sit back and wait for some weather to come through before driving 13 hours.

Go to the Bighorns. Closer and they have better snow than most. Especially after this system blows through Idaho and Northern WY.

Went with a friend this week to Lolo Montana/ Idaho area. Foot of fresh today. Very good base and still snowing. Give this area a look the snow here is deep. Worth a drive from SD.

Hey guys, get on CSA web site and read the grooming reports. You will see every one including Pagosa Springs, Lake City, Creede all need more snow. Molas Pass is the only area with decent snow and it still has rocks waiting to get you. I'm still seeing grass in spots in the yard here in Frisco. If you ride off road your going to have problems unless your damn careful or lucky.

We were just there for 5 days of riding and found awesome, untracked snow every day. The first day was the best - I stood in multiple trenches that were up to my shoulder in snow depth. Everyone we talked to said it was all tracked up but if you ride trees then it's still awesome down there.

What about Cooke? The last storm dropped 3-4ft. Probably have to look for the powder by now but heard they have pretty good coverage. High Avy danger though right now.

Was this the cat (in your avatar) that I saw sitting by the Ute Bluff Lodge with the entire left side suspension ripped from the sled????:face-icon-small-ton

Yeah it was. That was the first day out there. Below is RIGHT before it happened. I was in a real bad place to begin with and found a log laying across the creek bed.

Here are a few more of getting the sled out after the accident:

I rode it like this all the way back to the trail until my clutches became so packed with snow that I couldn't go any longer.

And yeah, we were no more than 2 miles away from the trail every day and found fresh untracked snow. We all ride in the trees and stayed away from any meadow. Once you climb through the trees, there was always tons of untracked hillside. Coming from Michigan, I would gladly go back right now if I could.

Did you git much snow Sunday/Monday to home?

They were calling for a bunch as we came through the Soo on the way home Sunday night.

We headed out from CO late the 2nd. When we got back to Houghton there was a decent amount of fresh POW in the Keweenaw but after today it's looking pretty rough again.
