why you shouldn't use a sled deck on a toyota

The tests don't lie, in an emergency situation, do you really want a vehicle that is going to be that squirley just because is has the softest ride of the group?

If you want to know where your rig is made, look at the Vin #

1 = Made in USA
2 = Made in Canada
3 = Made in Mexico

Both of my Fords were made in the USA!!!

So did the test show the Toyota came away damaged compared to the others ? Doubt it.
Flexible doesn't mean weak.
Run those trucks up and down that test til there's only one left.

I'm on my last vehicle of the big 3 (07 Cummins).
They can't compete in the car market, as my 03 toyota camry (loaded to the hilt) was nicer on the inside than the 08 caddilac CTS that I test drove. I ended up with an Infinity that came with big hp, great handling, and a nice warranty.
Toyota is coming out with a 1 ton diesel that will put any of the currents to shame. It's made in the U.S. just like most other toyotas, and made by people that are paid well to do an excellent job.

Saying you can put a sled deck on a half ton is like spanking your kids with a hammer.

Sure it will work, but it's not the proper tool for the job & you better be extra careful
doing it or you may cause some damage.

sure they are built here... but the money gets sent over seas to china to the company like honda, toyota, nissan.

So does all the other U.S. Money, why do you think we have a huge deficit. The U.S. buys just about every consumable, manufactured product from oversees, and produce very little by itself. The big 3 assembles cars in the U.S. but its all parts that are made somewhere else. I've owned 2 dodge cummins (05,07) and had 3 new front ends put on them at 30k, 65k, and now 24k miles. If these parts were made in the U.S. by someone making $75 hr, then it's obvious they have no pride in their work. You think the people who make the big bucks at the big 3 have their money in the U.S. It's international, anywhere that a buck can be made they have their finger in it whether its China, Russia, Mexico or America.
I say let them burn, I don't need their product, as there are others making quality, and setting the bar for the future.

So what?Their workers in the US pay taxes right?They buy things and support the local economy right?Who cares if the rest of the money goes to Japan?

The dumb 3 just wasted the money so badly US taxpayers have to bail them out.They're so stupid they fly corporate jets to Washington to tell the government how broke they are.Explain to me how you think this is better?

As for the sled decks I wouldn't personally use one on a half ton.

I am amazed by how naive some of you guys are.

this is a COMMERCIAL! it was written, EDITED, and filmed in order to sell Ford trucks. I guess they figured the half ton crowd will actually believe these "test" results.

its not even an original idea, they stole it from Dodge.
at least they don't have the "driving through a ring of fire" test that Dodge did. no chit.

and another thing, a flexing frame is stronger than a stiff one.

nothing against Ford trucks, I love mine.:D

I Roll with my sled in the back of my 04 tacoma, people make fun of me all the time. But I have never broke down or never got stuck and while the big truck are driving slow with the trailers and sled decks, the toyota is passing them all day. I love my truck it works for me. And did I mention how good they fly through air. You can launch a tacoma and the damn things never break. Some day i'll get a real truck though

Toyota is testing a 1 ton dually,,,, it's going to have I believe either a new genration Isuzu or Mitsu for now. Read this some where. Truck looked cool, had better body lines than the current tundra and I think it said 340 or 370 horse? With huge torque number and real low rev. I think they said also 6 speed auto with full lock up mode for towing something like that.

Depending on the sled and deck a 1 ton will be overloaded :eek: Anyone who thinks a 1/2 ton isn't overloaded is just plain ignorant.

So now we need an F550 to use a sled deck??? :confused:
I agree on the 1/2 ton being overloaded but......

Here is your Toyota 1.5 ton with built in sled deck. Could be the envy of everyone at the parking lot at the bottom of the hill.
My experience with Toyota pickups. Yes they have a fairly decent power train. The body metal is fairly corrosion resistant, but can be dented with your baby finger on some areas. It's not that the body panels are a thinner gage, but simply have less steel in them than Ford, GM or Dodge. I've fixed a lot of them. They still have value. (so do beer cans) My opinion is Toyota pickups are a great vehicle for getting groceries, and hauling Styrofoam, that's it.
I carry two sleds on my 3/4 ton Duramax with a sled deck, pull a four place trailer, four sleds on it, and I'm not over weight. I get between 15 and 18 mpg hauling this stuff while running on over 400 hp. Wonder if a Toyota could compete? I know Ford and Dodge can't!

ill be getting one to replace my tacoma....

And as for the little ford video BS, its silly. Durability test? Ok, lets drive each of those trucks for 200K and see which has the best "durability".....

When I took my Dodge 3500 Cummins threw the scales with two on the deck and only me in the cab, I was 500lbs under what i'm legally allowed. Time you add in another guy in the cab, and that fact that the truck tank and both sleds were about half full, it would be fully loaded. What I ment is if your hauling Yamaha's or pull a 2 place behind it and have two more guys in the cab, you will be overloaded. Probably not enough to be bothered but overweight nonetheless. I main point is that people doing it with half tons are crazy.

Unless you've got 120's on the deck or only 1 person in the cab, your overloaded for sure.

My 05 Duramax 3/4 ton "Heavy Duty" had 80 000 miles on it, 2 rear leaking axle seals, leaking rear calipre, transmission problems, and countless fuel rail problems while hauling.
I now use a Tundra to do the same hauling, 65 000 miles on it and I have NEVER been to the dealer for warranty issues. I needed a Toyota 1/2 ton to do the job a Heavy Duty 3/4 ton diesel couldn't hack. (11000 lb skidsteer/trailor combo). I also dented the dmax box top edges with my Knees from hopping up and leaning in.....????? Truck or barbie doll case?
Once you've owned a Toyo or Nissan you don't go back. You start to think everyone else is nuts for putting up with the poor quality of the big 3.
My opinion is based on long term owning and driving of both. Lots of opinions on Toyota and Nissan from guys who've never owned one. Interesting.

Every brand has lemons, i'm not a GM fan but those repairs seem odd. But my Dodge Cummins has 73,000 miles on it and never had a problem yet, and I pull a skidsteer and trailer up to approx 13k, and 2 on the deck in the winter, and the truck is lifted with 35" and some power :D No Toyota or any other half ton would handle a 14k trailer with 6" lift 35" tires and lots of power under the hood, the axles would snap like twigs.
