Why Can't Lightweight and Reliability Exist in the same sled?

Yes, riding all the new sleds for longer than 5 minutes is what a person needs to do.

I just love all the things I'm reading about the 2009 M8s. They are shocking a lot of people.

I have to wonder, if the 2009 M8 is this good, I have to wonder how much better is the 2009 M1000 Sno Pro? Is it worth packing around that extra 30 lbs to have the extra hp? it sure sounds like fuel mapping is an issue on some sleds.

Yes, I have heard the XPs even though light, don't handle like they are that light but, I can't say for sure from any personal experience. The 2009 M8 Sno Pro is pretty close to the XP weight now too. It's too bad the M8 doesn't pack that extra 10-15 hp the 800 XP has stock. I know SLP and others have ways of bringing the M8 up to 154-160 but, the Skidoo can also be modded to give it more juice.

Throw some pink racing stripes on it and you'll be good to go

A fellow who goes by AKRider on Totally Yamaha made the following comment.

"I'm all for making things lighter, but I also need a sled that will hold up. I think the next design break through should be offering a sled that is physically smaller. Sleds have just increased in size over the years and an easy way to drop weight is to make it smaller. I'm thinking along the lines of the original Phazer, it was a small sled.Seems like you could package the suspension components to offer modern travel numbers yet still keep the sled small".

I agree with him. I was riding the kid's Ovation the other day and all you have to do is blink to lay it into a powder turn. The Ovation is too small for the general population but, the original Phazer was a huge hit with people of all ageas and sizes. Maybe making a 3/4 or 4/5 size mountain sled would go over huge? Why am I already thinking about how fun one would be to mod?

Hey **** YOU a$$ hole. Lets see your sled? What are you 12? It takes a lack of nuts to call some ones mod sled out like that and then hide behind your monitor.

A lot of peoples time, money, blood, and help went into this sled and I am very thankful to people on the forum, such as Spank at Bad Oscar Customs, 1200 PSI( Brad ), Winter, RSI for all the help, Walker Evans Racing, the Tire Iron for letting me use the shop, Sperano’s Custom welding for the FREE chassis mods and tunnel extension, and some more that I am sure I am forgetting.

So again, let’s see your sled Mrs. Sled critic. Let me guess, your mods are a can, took a few decals off, 2” bar riser? Do you even own a XP? Did you get that handle bar warmer fixed yet?

EDIT- I went back and found a pic of dukes sled just for everyone who wants to see this bad boy. Nice sled duke. Reminds me of my sled when i was around 12. I think mine was still nicer. I even had a lefty

Well here it goes. I rode a brand new M1000 last week after jumping off my modded Nytro and couldn't wait to get off of it and back onto the Nytro. The power was OK but not by any means arm stretching but the ergos are way out of date IMO. Again and its only my opinion so don't anybody jump down my throat but the XP and Nytro (haven't ridden a Dragon yet but I will have a chance soon) are both better sleds than the big Cat. After my buddy had nothing but problems with his M7 we all kinda looked the other way. I'm sure they've got the bugs out now, but if you're coming off the Yami I think that any any of the Cats are going to drive you nuts in the end.

Oh.............. geez can anyone else feel it? It's getting a bit heated in here.

Sorry, I'm not touching the pink racing stripe battle.

The Nytro I will. Now I haven't ridden a Nytro yet (but I have made vrooom noises in the dealership several times). My buddy just bought one for his wife and I should get to ride it very shortly.

Yes, the Egros fit me very nicely but, I understand they tend ride like a "barrel" in the powder stock? When I see everyone buying, new front shocks, new A arms, new rear skids, adding a tapered tunnel, etc. Geesh. I want something that works from the factory. Maybe.... just maybe Yamaha will have a REAL mountain sled (I'm not saying a modded one is not) offered next year but, I'm not holding my breath.

The Apex isn't different enough from my 162 rider forward RX-1M now and it's way too heavy to be my next sled.

Like I said earlier, if something amazing doesn't come along for 2010. I'd consider buying someones boosted Nytro (If I like it when I ride one).

Right now though, I am very interested in spending some quality time with the M series and the XP X.

If it was me and my money i was spending and i wanted a OEM sled. I would buy the new assault, sell the track with the rails to some one with a RMK and then buy a 155 or 163" polaris track and get some custom rails form Ice Age MFG for $325 and have them pow coated black or something. Then HPS can, SLP single pipe, maybe a pump gas head or something and call her good for a year or two. Then pump gas turbo on 6-8 pounds of boost and you would be a hella fun sled.

I always loved the IQ chassis in the powder. By far the best IMO and I hear the new front bumper design makes them even better!

I've ridden both and for me there is no comparison. I'd take the XP all day long. If you think you're going to buy any sled of any brand and not do any mods I think you are deluding yourself. They all get modded to the tune of at least a thousand bucks. A can here, a shock there, a set of weights, a helix blah blah blah buying it is just the first step in the pain. Pick your poison and live with the consequences.

Rev for sure. Love my Nytro but the weight sucks. I don't want an XP because it won't hold up(I'm assuming). I think I'm going to build another Rev mod.

I LOVE my 154 XP 800r! Tons of power and just keeps pulling. Great for jumping, but when you wanna go pull a chute you can!

But, its not so perfect on the handling side, atleast not my 800, on the other hand my 09 600 e-tec 146 handles like a dream!
Next year I plan on switching to a 15" wide track either 150" or 156" i dont know.

good luck Frosbite! Tell us what you end up getting! This is just my 02 cents!

I'm not reading the whole thread!

Buy the XP! from a trusted dealer who is backing the product.
3 year bumper to bumper Warranty? I think your asking for a little too much!

All the sleds are better than 90% of the riders out there so you can't go wrong with any of them.

Pull the trigger and by the matching jacket and go sledding!!:D:beer;

Frostbite i think all the guys are talking about the same thing. It is what ever you want to ride i have rode them all and i love my xp but i have not had the seat time on the rest.Turbo yamaha hang on the cats great sleds, polaris the same.I think you will have to make up your own mind.Do you want stock or do you want to mod i can tell you with out lifting on wrench my doo is not the easiest.I built the turbo set up on mine and left a few layers of skin under the hood. Have fun.

I was thinking about the exteme sleds like the Polaris Assault. In fact, I was making Vroom noises at the dealership wishing it had at least a 155" track on it.

I love the idea of the sleds. I haven't seen the Skidoo version yet and I really couldn't take all that green of the Arctic Cat version.

In what ways (other than shocks) would an Assault be better than an 800 Dragon?

I bereave it have wider a-arms, no sway bar, rail stiffeners, and a few other things. They do make a longer track for the assault as an option.

Seems like a waste of money to me unless you have lots.

Just buy a 163'' and be done with it if you want, and get the shocks you want if they are that big of a problem. rail supports too??? Most people dont buy a 163 for jumping.

Have not rode against a d8 yet but rode one and they feel shy on power compared to the xp. Nice smooth motor though. Chassis feels porkish when comparing the 2 IMHO.
