We need a suspension demo day with all the makers, then we just need all different snow conditions to test it all, lol

Thats actually a heck of an idea.

Wouldn't it be COOL to have a few nearly identical sleds set up with the different suspensions so you could ride them side by side and really get an honest comparison of the relative Strengths and Weaknesses of each one??

That would be cool....

It would have to be the same sled, same front suspension and shocks, same goodies like handlebar height position, same running boards, skis & Carbides, same track and tension.

Doable, but lots of work to create a level playing field for an evaluation of the skid in an objective manner. The same would be true if you were evaluating everything from a turbo kit to a set of skis.

We are fortunate though.... I think it will be possible this winter as there will be SPG black N.A. Nitros out there with the only diff being the rear suspension... hopefully they will be in the same place/time and the owners will let some people ride them to compare... Kewl.

It would be a finicky test and would have to be adjusted properly for each rider weight and style too. But its nice to dream once in a while. It takes some pretty good knowledge, experience, and skill to know the difference and what is happening under your arse,

My ride is a Dragon, and I do believe that different sleds react to different suspensions. Also, HOW you ride makes a difference in which suspensions to even consider! With that said, I've ridden a Boosted Nytro with the Timbersled skid and felt like it did everything I feel on the Dragon.

For me, my riding style, Timbersled has completely delivered. I love deep powder rodeo style, ravines, bumps, trees. Tree lines that must be kept. Cornices to drop and lines to climb. A bit of everything, but really... it's a 700 so chutes just don't come into the equation however in the spring she gets a pretty good work out climbing.

I like less trenching, the Timbersled does a really good job of getting you up on the snow. I've ridden next to stock (Poo) suspensions and gotten a good comparison of our trenches, TS rocks this situation!

I like control yet nimble. When pulling technical tree lines you can't have a suspension that wants to dive on you, bounce you around, that makes you work hard to hold what lines you want to hold or prefers to go straight when you need to hookit around trees (hard/fast/short bursts ie nimble). This is where I've really really appreciated the Mountain Tamer. It reacts with little body language to these situations and allows me to dance around as much as I want!

It absorbs bumps/jumps wonderfully. Doesn't kick back on a rebound. Takes off as straight and level as I've been able to do on the IQ. Was able to drop a few good sized cornices this spring (while injured) and the landings were coooooooshy. On nasty trails it is much easier to control and keep your speed, AND stay in control.

Keeps the nose down when climbing (granted I'm low on the HP level....) and doesn't transfer back like many of the stock suspensions seem to do.

Timbersled's customer service is top notch! You have a question, they have an answer. You have an issue, they do their best to fix it. You need a part, it's shipped promptly. Hard to beat that these days!

EASY to install.

Pretty sure that about covers all the important (to me) basics of why go with the Timbersled.

Have I compared it first hand with others? Nope. I have ridden with Alan, getting to see his riding style and how the skid worked for him (VER WELL!) coupled with their fabulous customer service to those I've known with their products in the past were dominant factors in my decision making process.

While I wasn't planning on doing so, I have changed my mind and placed an order for a customized skid for Nytrocity this coming season.

What the heck.
I am replacing the front suspension, supercharging the engine, might as well put a new skid on her and go for broke.

Very good way of thinking, I just need to water my money tree more......

What can I say.
Its a great Snowmobile!! :face-icon-small-hap

So what's left to get, it will be interesting to hear your opinion on what ever skid you got.(a lot of good choices) So what you really meant is you where going to buy one then make us wait tell the snow flies to tell us. lol

No.
Didn't mean to make it a big secret.

For me it pretty much came down to either the Timbersled or the KMOD, though early on I was thinking about the EZ-Ryde.

I think both Timbersled and KMOD each make an excellent rear Skid that would more than solve any potential problems I am going to see from having installed the new Super Charger on my sled. Both of them are more than up to the task of making my Nytro perform to the full extent of it's abilities.

And if push came to shove, I think Timbersled probably has the technological edge over KMOD right now with their new "Infinitely Adjustable Coupling"

But, There is an old saying in retail sales...
Location, Location, Location.

And that had a pretty big impact on my final decision.

Timbersled is 525 miles north of me.
KMOD is 40 miles away.

And being the wise entrepreneur that Kevin Bolinder is, he hoped in his truck and drove over to my house to have a chat with me about his product. After spending an hour or so with him discussing what he makes and why he makes it that way, I decided to give his unit a trail run this winter.

AND.
Timbersled already has a VERY strong advocate on the forum staff in the form of our very own MOUNTAINHORSE, who is the Polaris Moderator. So I thought it only fair that I try to balance things out and hop on the KMOD bandwagon. Always makes things more entertaining when you have two solid points of view to compare and contrast against each other.

So, with all that said, I have asked Kevin to build me up a custom KMOD Gen II Series 2 in Yamaha BLUE for Nytrocity!

I have NOT decided on which shock package to get yet. The Fox Floats or the Raptor Coil Over. But I think Kevin is leaning pretty strongly in favor of the Raptors...

Excellent choice Christopher....Raptors are the what I will be putting on mine when I do order.

My two cents worth Chris, I would go Raptors. This is going to be great to see how you like it on the Nytro.:face-icon-small-coo

I must be missing something with the Raptor shocks because for me I'm still going to choose the Fox Float EVOL's as they give me COMPLETE adjustablity (sp?) end to end at any time. And I like to have that control vs taking the shocks out and taking them into the dealer for changes. I think there are still a lot of people that when they hear "Fox Floats" they are thinking about the first design of them and not all of the EVOL options. Completely different shocks.

Christopher, what shocks are you going to run on the front of your sled next season? Still the Floats you have now with that new Skinz front end?
