whats with all the lifted trucks in Utah

The only thing I know is my Dmax needs a Cognito kit so I can stop blowing out shocks on the front end. Probably only do a 2-3" leveling kit, but it will still make for better suspension travel and use of the shock length.

Could I get by without a lifted truck? Probably.
Has my lifted truck saved me or someone else before? Definately
Will I lift my next truck? Probably not (wear of tires and components and cost)
My truck sees 90 to 95% pavement, but for the other, my lift has been great.
At least 4 times the snow was so deep in the parking lot I would have been stuck as my pa and others have been in stock trucks.
Twice up to the cabin last year I pulled my brother and another guy out of what apeared to be a puddle but turned out to be 3-4 feet deep... Both had 4 wheel drive and both high centered.
Had to unhook trailer, pull out truck then back in same hole and hook onto trailer... Almost highcentered with 35inch tires, but pulled the trailer right out.
Someone eventually would have come along, but both my brother and the other guy sure were glad to see me.(different occasions)

I like having a lifted truck, next time It will be an older truck but I dont have the space or money to insure two vehicles but it does come in handy when were out shooting and no one else can make it where your going.. It has alot to do for me, I hate having the same thing everyone else has, so it makes it different. I had a guy once tell me, why lift a truck, a truck is a truck..... hmmm... Not sure how that works..I'm not cocky at all about the toys but... jealousy?? sorry.. just my thoughts..

"Need" a lifted truck ... uh huh ;)

Who "needs" a lifted truck? Like I said, if you wanna do one, buy a 20 year old truck, and build a dedicated off-road rig...IE, one that's been converted to a solid axle, running a MINIMUM 38" tire, has had the fenders cut out to lower center of gravity, etc..

Somebody please explain to me what puting a 4-6" lift on your truck and running 35" tires accomplishes as far as "off-road ability" other than raising your center of gravity and making the truck roll over.

I have yet to see how running a 35x12" tire adds so incredibly much more off-road capability to your otherwise stock truck that it was worth the $4,000+ that it cost to have put on ..

And then with that said, what additional "off road" capability that it added, it also made it that much easier to tear up the truck and stress the **** out of the front end, etc, costing even more ...

Buy a 4-wheeler, they're more fun, go more places, and are a lot cheaper.... :)

Call me an idiot, I don't care, I think it's pointless to lift your pickup truck...

With that said, I do think your tahoe looks good :)

It's for looks .... admit it .... it does look good, and it really didn't give you a whole hell of a lot more off-road capability than it already had ;)

like I said, go ahead and call me an idiot, I'm used not not being popular :D

And, for sake of argument, I did put larger-than-stock tires on my truck so it looked better ....

I guess I've just seen so many generically lifted trucks since I moved to vernal I just think %99 of them look stupid these days.

bah.

I have been ranting on the internet entirley too much since my sled broke and the snow started melting.

I'm going to go buy a microwave now.

I would guess you dont like fake boobs either, they are pointless, but sure look nice and are great fun. Lifted trucks are just part of living in Vernal. We spend more time off-road than we do on-road if it bothers you that much the MOVE

You should have bought a DODGE CUMMINS 3500. 2" up front and your ready for 35's no problem. Any bigger and you're trying to compensate for something else if you know what I'm sayin.

Can you attest to this..

Every time I walk up to my truck or see it sitting somewhere I say
God damn that truck looks GREAT !
NOT hmm looks just like that other guys...
plus I need the 35 x 13.5 for hook up. Anything less and I would go through tires like crazy !:D Lifts are a small part of the mod process !

I think you're absolutley insane to put a lift kit on a perfectly good running pickup.

If you wanna take a 20 year old truck and make a dedicated off-road rig, then more power to you, but I seriously can't think of a bigger waste of money than putting a lift kit and bigger tires on a truck that is your daily driver.

Well sir, some of us actually use our trucks for work. I don't get sideways very often about things, but, I will right now...:face-icon-small-win
My truck litterally sees 40 thousand miles a year of off road. SOOO, of course I'm putting a high end suspension system and good tires under it. I still haven't had any issues with any front end components....
I drive my lifted '07 Cummins everyday for work. Might not be the most wise financial choice, but if I didn't have my truck, I wouldn't have a job, so that's why I do it. Like others have said, if you can't take the heat, stay the heck out of the kitchen...

I'm only 5'6 but isn't a pain in the arse to reach over the side of box of a lifted truck or jump up in the box to grab somthing. don't get me wrong i love to look at lifted trucks but to use one for a work truck?

Well, yeah, it is, definitely. BUT, it's a tradeoff. I built a toolbox that lets me access the box easier. It's like a pack rat. I only have a KORE suspension, and 35s, but it works awesome, and that's why I built it that way.

I have a POS little explorer that's seen probably seen as much off-road use as every lifted truck in Vernal combined ...

"I need a lifted truck for work" .... I don't buy off on that, sorry :)

If that was the case then every service company in existance would put lifts on their trucks. The bottom line is, the so-called "high end suspensions" don't really do much but stress stock components even more, at least from what I can tell. There is virtually no benefit whatsoever to having a work truck that's jacked 6+ inches off the ground except in some circumstances you aren't going to get high centered as easily. It's all about looks, period. If I had a dime for every time I've seen some guy in a lifted truck try to drive the thing down a snowmobile trail in the winter because he thought the big tires made his truck more off-road capable I'd be a rich man. I can believe that in deep mud and sand those tires help, but I REALLY fail to see it in the snow.

The whole "if I can't take the heat get out of the kitchen thing" is kind of dumb too, all I've stated here is that from a practical standpoint I don't see how dropping $5000 on a small lift kit for a truck gives you any real off-road benefits for what the cost of doing the lfit was ... I agree, it's your money, and you should be free to do with it whatever you want, but I still just think it's a colossal waste of money to put lift kits on trucks that are essentially daily drivers then claim it's for "off-road benefit" ..

Really, if that's the case, why not buy an H2 :p

Maybe if you put a lift under that little Explorer you would not think it was such a POS:face-icon-small-hap

I still can't believe someone who rides and mod's sled would get there undies in such a bunch over something like this:confused:....Go figure......

I think it's just coming off that way on the internet....I don't know, all I'm saying is that I've looked into lifting my own trucks, studied most of the various makes over, etc, and the final conclusion I came to is that it's a waste of money to just do a small lift on a daily driver truck. I even did some FEA modeling in school on axle assembilies and then tried to come up with some models about how increasing the tire size effected the fatigue life of the components, etc ... I mean this was by no means an "intensive study" it was just messing around with software my senior year ...
