What's Happening To Big Bores?

HighTime,
My 2.5 is not backwards and seems to hook up real well. Today was definitely a big bore day in the Ruby's if you wanted to get anywhere. The stockers were struggling. There was an odd combination of water vapor, warm air, hot belts, and heavy power robbing snow that was sucking the life out of the stockers today. Big snow in April is always welcome.

I agree on the power burst (or just torque) of the BB 2strokes. My turbo hits hard after its lit but nailing it from a dead stop and its NOTHING compared to the grunt of the 1200! which has the power anytime you want it!

1200wc, most reliable NA HP dollar for dollar PERIOD! 240hp pump gas all day long!!!!!!

well i have sat by now a read a bunch of great stuff and good points...but this right here sums it up for me...if i want it ...get a fist full and hang on....not grab and wait for it to wined up.and i like the tail walking over everything.....i got a new stocker though...lol 444 everest:beer;i just can't stop mess'n with them so i got it to sit next to the invader....they dont build them like that any more.

Nothing like a two hundred foot tail walk to scare off the competition.

Keep your sled light, add some big depenable power, put a Camo Extreme 2.5 on backwards. Then try not to let the bars get out of your hands. I did April 10 and my foot got stuck in the foot well. Hit some trees. The sled's fixed , but I'll need a little more time.

Rode with Phatty last weekend and heard you guys got waist deep eh! We are still looking at it soon...Tony is out of town now but will be there soon (hopefully)! save some untracked and keep an eye on (their schedule for me ) Can't wait to hit it one more time.....

AIN'T NOTHING LIKE A BIG BORE IN THE FRESH....

Heck yes we got dumped on! It was insane! PM me if you come down!

Here's a picture from last saturday I really like Jay. The new sled will tailwalk one heck of a long way. This picture really shows off the canyon. Too Much Fun!! The way this spring is shaping up it looks as though we may be riding in early June. We haven't lost one inch of snow to date.

My son and I had a great ride yesterday. We decided to go for a run before the weather hit. This morning the wind is blowing about 30 MPH with a trace of snow on the ground in Elko. I'm sure the mountain will get a few more inches. We had excellent weather yesterday as you can see on the photo.

It is not about HP in these cases it is all about the track do the work to put a 2.4 on the edge and it would be you getting spanked. So out comes the IQ and you do not have to do a bunch of crap just to put a 2.4 on it and it comes stock. Yep big nores are all around you just do not know it. I noticed that Jack's sleds were left out of the mix here and I think one of the reasons is more than half of them fit in stock trim and are not identifiable. I see many many big bores around here both doo and poo so maby it is a location thing.

Whoa, back the train up a second. Nobody said a new stocker is going to run with your $5000 mod engine sled. And if performance isn't an issue why do I see a slew of tubo Yammi's out there? Lets line up a $5000 turbo kitted Apex next to your UBR 900 and see who is out gunned, that is a fair comparison.

What I was trying to say was that stockers today stomp stockers from yesterday so fewer people feel the need to go big. I've been riding a bone stock M7 153 and stomping on a couple of piped/canned/clutched 800 RMKs, one an '02, one an '05. That used to be a pretty hot, sub mod, sled. Now a stock 700 outclimbs it by a bunch with the same rider on it. I know a 154 hp Dragon is going even further than the little M7, as are the XP's so by my measure, and maybe I'm just a sissy boy, the new stock sleds with 3 year warranties are looking pretty impressive.

I do want a turbo Apex as a climber, wouldn't own it as a primary sled, but the power is addictive and performance downright insane. Most days though, I just don't need that much.

I think it is great you have been able to ride a mod like that for a while, and it damn well better beat up a stocker, new or old. But for us regular Joes, the 800 Dragon, XP or M1000 flat smoke what was availible just a couple years ago. I also know that if I wanted to drop a few extra grand for power it would be on a turbo instead of a big bore. Same money, same maintainance, more power, less wieght if you have to go to a tripple to get the 250+hp.

I agree, the track is the biggest improvement in mountain performance we've seen in the last couple years, not necessarily the new motors . You may be right with the location idea. We are a little bit isolated from the rest of the world and don't have the big population to draw from, there may be more out there than I realize. There are a few competitive guys with stock trim sleds I've ridden with that run well and refuse to open their hoods. All you can get out of them is a big sh!t eatin grin. As a general rule they're not foolin' anyone it's just how they humor themselves. I like to play games myself every now and then.

I agre on the location thing as well. Lots of sleds around here just can't get any of them to ride the terrain I like;) They all want to ride Grand Mesa and brag about the climbs. Thats a good one....mesa=flat top mountain:D So I have a limited group to ride with. There is a 910 CMX that can spank any of us and an Escape with nitrous. I ran into a guy with a lightened Apex that was supercharged and rode that a little, pretty nuts.

I guess I am only kidding myself here. As soon as I scare up the funds I will have at least a 200hp sled.

It is more than the track, they help but you need the power. My buddy's 600 RMK 155 doesn't stand a chance against the 7-800cc machines even with a great track. The '05 Edge has a 159 series 4, not a bad track at all and the M7 153 A20 can out mark it even when we change riders.

One of the best big bore combo's I've ever had the pleasure of riding with is a fella who took a M7, dropped in a Cutler 1000 and finished it off with a reverse A20. Mr. Snoo's sled has been whooping on alot of sleds for many years now and from what I've seen hasn't yet seen much competition in the normally aspirated crowd. It won't hang with the monster triples but probably gives'em fits in the powder.

I have a fully modded XSR 156 with "everything "on this and running a trigstad 880 and this sled rips. I ride with a turbo Dragon and a Turbo Nitro both are very powerfull impressive monsters.all three sleds shine in the differant ways. The Nitro will rip on those long point and shoot hills, The Dragon is light and runs very strong as well with a snappy response,The 880 shines in boondocking where on /off throttle is required with alot of grunt. All are great sleds with a totally differant feel. Everything has a tradeoff and none is better than the other just pick a weapon! Those who argue that thier sled is better than all the rest just because they happen to own that piticular sled at the time ? Well i,ll say no more, In thier element they all will shine

Are turbo sleds a little more difficult to fly (cornice jumps)? I don't know or ride with any "big air" turbo riders, most the people I know who do any jumping at all, ride normally aspirated sleds. I don't have any experience with turbos of any kind. When mid-air correction is needed, is over rotation or under rotation an issue? Is that little throttle blip there when you need it?

Or just have one sled for every diffrent type and style of riding!!!:D

I love my Cutler 1000 (oh by the way with a stocker M7 hood, I kinda like messing with my own mind eh!) but 'Ol Tony's 1000 is a friggin billygoat that is for damned sure! Everybody needs their target...he is mine, There is nothing I love more than riding with Tony he will hang it out there with the best of 'em and we are constantly comparing notes, He=Carbed, Me=Fuel injected........He=compression secondary, Me=torsional secondary, He=pre-mix, Me=oil injected........the list rolls on, it makes it a blast...he has helped me inprove on my capabilities immensley and is a great sub-conscious to have with me **what are you friggin nuts or what** LMAO!! he is best in your element up there Aderaneline Addict! I love my stocker M7 but I can tell you the pure thrill of enough HP to pull the front end off the ground with a 162 x 2.5 on the flats...is a rush and your palms sweating 'cause you know your sled can do it but CAN YOU......hmmmmmmmm 200 horsies is pure and simpl ADDICTION

:D
