I'd love a ABS, but can't swing it this year, man. I'll look into the ogio. Anyone in Canada know where I can get the Dakine bags?

Thanks, guys!

You can't afford not to have an ABS. One less weekend trip and it's paid for.
Please buy one somehow.

Work for them? Far from it, I didn't see anything commercial about it, and you're right, avalanches are serious....that is exactly why I have the pack. I just think it's interesting that most guys won't think twice about spending $550 for a seat, or $2000 for suspension, or any other mod out there, but act like they can't afford $800 for a pack that can improve your chances of living through an avalanche, when too many people die every single winter in them.
Didn't mean to hurt any feelings, it's obviously a touchy subject...

The thing about the ABS packs is... They didn't even exist a couple years ago, was I or anyone else stupid for not wearing one then? If the answer is no, then why would I or anyone else be stupid for not wearing one now. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one but there is no way I could afford one right now, I can barely afford to fuel my sled. On another note the ABS pack and the avalung both just recently came out.... don't you think something bigger and better and possibly more affordable will be comming out shortly. But until any of them a a little more affordable... say in the $250 range it's probe shovel and beacon for me.

I have a four year old Dakine Heli-Pro and love it. Wish they made one that was exactly like the one I have now.

Does the Ogio pack have outside shovel handle storage loops? The picture I saw didn't show the right side of the pack. I'm looking at a Voile shovel with removable handle.

I carry in the store, Dakine, Ski-Doo, Ogio, Fly, SOS, and BCA. The most popular backpack for the past 3 season has hands down been the Ogio Three6. The SOS being a distant 2nd.
The older generation like to have everything protected and sealed up - they go to the SOS 4 outta 5 times.
The Fly gains popularity because it has the water bladder built in, and I've used it for 3 seasons now before switching to the Ogio for this season.
A remote few pick the Dakine and the BCA, mostly repeat buyers that like what they have, and just want to upgrade to a newer version. Not usually interested in any other packs we have in stock.
The Ogio Three6, well, I heard they had something new coming out. Hope it doesn't deviate too much. The only thing I would change about the Ogio pack is that I want my probe to be in a sleeve on the outside as well......and some padding like the Fly pack to get the pack off the back and keep from sweating because the pack has full contact with the back.
But I love it. Until I get a ABS(My next big(to me) purchase) it will have to do.
The problem with the ABS(and it's the same as everyone else's problem) Guys just wanna spend 800-1200 bones on insurance because they figure a shovel, probe and beacon are enough. There are always better ways to protect ourselves, this is one of them.
A $300 alternative would be great, however I don't see it happening, although it would make sales and more importantly, more people wearing these types of packs.
The problem with bringing them into the store, is that they want we to order more than I am comfortable ordering because I know the mentality of the town and I'll be sitting on 3/4 of my first order until one of these are used in a life saving event, which none of us want to happen in the first place. I'm going to have to buy one at another store instead of bringing them into the store I work at. It's hard enough getting guys to buy beacons let alone an ABS.

Even 5 years ago the sleds could'nt climb anywhere near what they are able to do now!!! The game changes alot when guys are running 200+ horse w/ 2.5 paddles on 153's or 163's. ABS is just trying to make it safer using the best technology out there. To bad they are so spendy... But so is everything else associated with sleds. Live and learn I guess. If you feel comfy with someone in your party finding you in 10 min. with a beacon then more power to you, Its your life not mine! I still wear a beacon w/ the ABS if that makes you feel better.

It does have the loops on the side for the handle to be stored in. This pack also keeps the heat in. I have rode once or twice w/o it and was dressed the same as I usually do and I froze. Great pack, I wouldn't hesitate on buying one.

Osprey Switch Pack

Check out the Osprey Pack line.

I use the Switch 26 and it holds all of my safety gear and has three seperate compartments. One for quick access items, one dry section and one for wet items. Plenty of straps and you can put an H20 bladder in if you so desire. The hose for the bladder is in an insulated pocket all of the way through the shoulder strap.

I have two other packs by Osprey and they really stand by their product. Sent a new buckle for one waste strap with no questions asked and repaired the waterproofing on a zipper three years after I purchased the pack at no charge.

Heli pro is waaaay too small.
I was pondering on the three-6 or the poacher.

Got it for waay less through backcountry.com
I went with the poacher. I considered an abs, but it will have to be my next one.

And can anyone can show me a new abs pack for 800 bones I would like to see it.

Is the abs a true 30 litre pack? or is it before the bottle and bags? It seemed like a 20 when I saw it.:face-icon-small-con
