What pack to get?

I"m thinking ogio pack........other colors than black? Is there a model of shovel that fits better than another in this pack?

thanks

The thing about the ABS packs is... They didn't even exist a couple years ago, was I or anyone else stupid for not wearing one then? If the answer is no, then why would I or anyone else be stupid for not wearing one now. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one but there is no way I could afford one right now, I can barely afford to fuel my sled. On another note the ABS pack and the avalung both just recently came out.... don't you think something bigger and better and possibly more affordable will be comming out shortly. But until any of them a a little more affordable... say in the $250 range it's probe shovel and beacon for me.

Actually, the ABS packs have been in Europe for over 16 years now. I doubt that the price will drop drastically.

This is a TNA lighting, a TNA storm is what you are looking for!! New camera had to take a pic..

My new Ogio Three6 pack. For comparison, the Voile T-Wood Shovel blade is 10" wide X 15" tall. Only bummer is that the loop that would go around the shank of the blade to keep it in doesn't have a latching buckle, only an adjustable length buckle. Going to get that modified.

And can anyone can show me a new abs pack for 800 bones I would like to see it.

Is the abs a true 30 litre pack? or is it before the bottle and bags? It seemed like a 20 when I saw it.:face-icon-small-con

You can see the $800 pack in the previous picture I posted. Although you are right, they generally are a little more than that, but I got it for $800 brand new.

Not sure if it is a true 30 litre or not, but plenty of space for me.

With the High price of ABS packs preventing some people from getting them, has any group ever thought about chipping in on a pack? It could be passed around while highmarking, since only one person should be on the hill anyway?

I know that avys can occur even when not highmarking but it could surely cut down on the odds of getting swept up in avy.

Just thinking....since some people ride with the same core group all year.

If you want to borrow mine all you've got to do is ask. lol Not a bad idea. Not to mention you could have easily bought one if you hadn't just bought that new duramax.

I'm actually going to throw down this week and get one.

With the conditions like they are and our desire to travel in area 51 where we never see anybody else. A little evening of the odds seems cheap even if it was 1k$, a small price to pay!

Besides I had to get the Duramax to drag your arse around!;)

hey ttyR2, do you have a pic of the side that goes against your back for the ogio three6? Can't seem to find one. Trying to decide between that and the Heli Pro.

Don't know which model, but it's a ski pack from Camelback. Has the bladder and hose built in. Very comfortable. Big enough to pack everything you'd need (not everything, have alot of stuff stored in/on my sled too). Shovel straps on easily a couple different ways, outside the pack. Lots of pockets.

Got both packs, and gave the Heli-Pro to a buddy for his birthday. The only downfall I see with the Three 6 is that there's no external place for a probe that I can see. Am I being a glue victim, or is there anywhere other than inside the pack for your probe?

Wore the three6 pack today sledding for for the first time. Didn't notice the weight at all and had some food, water bladder (about half full), Voile T-wood saw/shovel combo in the pack. I did notice my back was warmer than usual but it didn't bother me at all.

I ended up using a elastic loop with a ball on the end as used to hold canvas tops on oudoor canopies to keep the shovel blade in as the loop that comes on the pack isn't long enough to fit over the shank of the blade.

The Voile shovel rocked. My 4runner doesn't have good snow tires on it and we had to dig out trenches to get a run at backing out of the parking lot. No snow stuck to the shovel blade and with the handle extended it worked excellent. Highly recommended!

Does any one make a pack that has a zippered spot for shovel and probe. I have seen to many shovels on the trail from falling off of their packs and would prefer to have it zipped in.

On the lightning pack the shovel has it's own zippered pouch but the probe is strapped in the main pouch..I could take a few pics..
