I live in Reno and it is pretty easy to get a gun here. Every time I hear about them wanting to take something away I end up buying a few more of the style of guns they want to get rid of...and just did again Wednesday night night.
Second thought is that my wife is a school teacher, her and I are both CCW holders. I don't think my wife is John Wayne or anything but I would prefer it if she at least had a chance. My wife's uncle did all the trick archery shots for the original Robin Hood movie and I think my wife inherited some vision and breathing skills from him. The lady can clack my steel targets with the handguns and rarely misses on my handgun range. She kills my plates at 750 yards and 300yards with the rifle. I would just rather know she could at least maybe have a chance or opportunity instead of just being a sitting duck. Most of the teachers at her school do not feel the same way as well as the Principle. We don't break the rules and she does not carry anywhere near the school. She is often ostracized for her views and that's the part that kind of sucks.
The third thing I think about with all of this is the way people who don't know much about guns think about them. I'll put my wife with her doublestack 9mm CZ shadow 2 up against any kid who just bought an AR. She is accurate as hell, on the timer can empty out the mag with zero misses on 18 shots ranging from 30 to 50 feet on multiple targets in about 10 seconds. The AR is semi auto, so is her handgun. AR holds 30, hers holds 18. She can drop a mag and reload in under a second...most unpracticed AR shooters will take at least 5. She is extremely mobile and has taken courses in Parhump Nevada on how to handle this thing clearing houses and other hostage type situations and making decisions under stress...The lady is bad *** and I would feel safer if she could carry at school. If I could pick the weapon I would prefer her to carry at school, even if she was allowed to have a safe or something would be her CZ shadow. I own a lot of the guns that are considered Assault type including some very nice AR's and I would still put the CZ in my wife's hands because of how mobile she is with a pistol, the distance she is able to maintain accuracy, and the quickness she possesses in a draw she continually practices.
I realize not all teachers are my wife and I don't expect someone who makes as little as our teachers to have to stand in front of bullets but the fact of the matter is our teachers often do anyway. If my wife is going to stand in front of somebody's child to protect them, and I am pretty sure she would because it seems to be a teachers instinct sort of thing I would love it if she had a chance to protect herself not just absorb some shots and hope our heath insurance can fix her.
My last thought is this, people who want to inflict harm will. We were in Nice last year when a truck decided to run over people. We were a little further up the street from where all hell broke loose with friends of our family having gelato. we had been in the area 20 minutes earlier. You cant stop crazy. Most of us here weather we know it or not probably have the chemicals in our garages that we use to work on our toys and have the ability to blow our homes and our neighbors homes off the foundation. Look at Timothy McVeigh, that was a very easy to get a hold of fertilizer at the time, there are many others.
Maybe we need to teach everyone to ride a snowmobile, snowbike, dirtbike or something. I value my life so much and don't take one second for granted. I feel lucky and charmed to be living this existence...And I like being able to protect it.
