That sled will be sweet when its finished! Good job.........

yeah I am so pumped to ride it. Its probably not good i am building it in my senior year of college, cant stop thinking about the thing lol
thanks though

I need to get an anti stab kit...what are my options, is the whal bros the only one out there? can i make my own easily?

Got a u cooler on the way. Going to cut it up to make it work for my situation as i dont need the bend in the middle. Should be way more then enough cooling for the xlt engine and should work for the ultra 800 next year. Going to make it wider so the outside flanges pic up the outer tubes of the tunnel. And if there is enough material i will try to make a small double pass as the thing is 64 inches long and i only have 44 inches from the front tunnel cross member to the rear seat cross member. Should be good.

you want to have the cooler all the way to the back, the most effective cooling area is the 6" over the back tips of the paddles and in the bulkhead

thanks I will take that into consideration. I would have to cut the seat cross member or something in that case. Ill have to see what I can do.

for a quick heads up on mig welding, you could do it with a mig welder if you take time with your fit up, also some welders have the ability to hot start with eliminates the initial cold lamp and stacked up weld and they also have crater which slowly ramps down both your voltage and wire speed, just food for thought id tig weld it like you are tho

I would try and build some chromoly arms for the rear suspension. You could just copy the same geometry of the stock suspension and build them out of chromoly. I bet you could drop almost 10lbs there also.

yeah i have definitely thought about doing that. Just wont happen this year because of funding and time. Being away at college is making this project pretty slow. I know a guy here in Maine that is working on a new mountain skid that will be all chromoly and have custom rails, so i may try to hold out for that.

I did get home for a day this weekend and got some stuff done. Got my steering post mounted father forward. Got my wiring all redone with new kill switch and put on aluminum throttle block. Even tossed the engine in and fired it up to make sure my wiring was good. Got most of the front suspension bolted in for good. U cooler came yesterday. Hopefully will get the thing near ride able thanksgiving week when I am finally home from school. Should have lots of pictures that week!
to do:
Cut and fit cooler
Finish welding trailing arms
Cut and fit all the running board tubes
cut and fit tunnel skin
press on anti ratchet drivers
finish a few wiring odds and ends

Well good luck with the rest of your project. Your are a very talented at fabricating and welding. Have fun.

you are without a doubt dedicated . i have a few pics of my wedge on here.you might enjoy.

thanks man, i am just trying to make the best of what i have. No sense in buying a 10,000$ sled only to go destroy it on a stump or something. Here in Maine the back country is not as forgiving as out west with big open meadows and what not. We spend all of your time in cuttings and and the trees. I would cringe taking a new sled where I go. With the old iron anywhere and anything becomes fair game for traction or trails. Thus i am building what i feel like is going to be the ultimate back country sled for Maine.....well until i do full tube chassis and 800 ultra big bore next year....

NINJIN your from Maine? Cool man, what school are you goin too? Im from Maine also an think the project is coming along wicked awesome! Im still in Engineering school but have been thinking of building a tube chassis very similar to yours. Great Work!

Yeah I am from Maine. Going to UMaine at Orono for mechanical engineering technology where are you going?

Man we need some more pics up here soon. You and manowar. LOL

I know it man! Hunting season and school has put a damper on things! Next Monday will be heading home for the entire week with intentions of working on the sled all week! I want to see manowar get the engine in his!
