I have over 550 miles on the Twisted Mini Panther now running it at 7lbs boost on AvGas. I have found using the Attitude box with three simple gauges of Air/Fuel, Fuel Pressure, and Boost makes running a super mod sled very user friendly to a first time Turbo owner.
What I am really loving about this sled is it is ability to adapt to any situation and it's ease to tune. The Twisted Mini Panther can turn into 300HP screamer in the flick of a throttle, yet still maintain a docile user friendly power band to tree ride with a 130 lb rider.
I have to say that Shain Stanger's TM1 set up enables a novice to enter the turbo world with ease & confidence. Anytime I have a question, he is right there to answer my call (even on the hill) & gives me a 1,2,3 A,B,C answer.
A few chassis modifications since the original build were made to customize it to my personal riding style.
Here is what we altered for suspension and gearing from the original set up.
I found I went back to my preferred gearing, Black Diamond Xtreme’s 55/65 Gearing. I do quite a bit of slow tight technical tree riding at 1/4-1/2 throttle that I need that down low response this enabled that normally aspirated 'grunt' feel I am accustom to.
It was wheeling with the shorter Camoplast 156 Challenger Xtreme track and Timbersled suspension combination, especially in 'whooped out terrain'. So we experimented & moved the front shock placement forward on the Mountain Tamer and added rear shims. The result kept the front end down but hindered handibility greatly. So we moved the shock back to the original placement setting, & left the rear shims in place. This remedied the problem and enables me to run that shorter length track while maintaining control while on high boost.
I have been running the newest technology from Skinz Protective Gear. I installed Skinz Air Frame light weight hood that is specifically designed for Turbo sleds. I have had NO melting issues with this current hood. It is designed with NASA grade heat shield technology that allows you carve through powder, and actually lay the sled on a side without melting as well. One other advantage to using this hood it maintains cool under hood temps and cool clutches consistently. I am still running the original belt at 550 miles.
I actually remembered to take a camera out yesterday & handed it to my Husband! Though we did not have a ‘blue bird’ day for perfect photos & missed a few tail walks shots with it...& let me add...HOLY RIPP'N FUN THAT IS!. Budd did manage to get some shots of me doing basic technical maneuvers with it. So here are a few of those pictures & I hope to have more soon!
